The 1952–53 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 59th season in their existence. It was their seventh consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's chairman for the seventh successive season. Overview At the beginning of the season René Bader took over the job as club trainer from Ernst Hufschmid who had acted as trainer the previous five years. Bader acted as player-coach and Willy Dürr was his assistant coach, he stood at the side line when Bader played. Basel played a total of 43 games during this season. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Hans Weber
Johann "Hans" Weber (8 September 1934 – 10 February 1965) was a Swiss football midfielder who played for Switzerland in the 1962 FIFA World Cup. He played 13 seasons for FC Basel and two seasons for Lausanne-Sport. Football career Weber played his youth football for Basel. In the season 1949–50 he was taken up by their first team. He played his first team debut on 24 September 1950, an away game at the Charmilles Stadium, Geneva, against Servette. He scored his first two goals for the club just one week later on 1 October 1950 in the home game against La Chaux-de-Fonds as Basel won with the end score 4–1. In the 1952–53 season Weber was part of the championship winning team. For the 1955–56 season Weber transferred to Lausanne-Sport. György Mogoy
György Mogoy (born 14 August 1924) is a Hungarian former footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played mainly in the position as defender, but also as midfielder. Mogoy was born in Igal, Hungary. He played three seasons for Czechoslovakian club ŠK Slovan Bratislava and one season each for Italian club Catania and Spanisch club RCD Mallorca before he moved to Switzerland. Here he first played one season for Grasshopper Club Zürich. Mogoy joined FC Basel's first team for their 1952–53 season under player-coach René Bader. After playing in five test matches, Mogoy played his domestic league debut for his new club in the away game on 31 August 1952 as Basel played a 2–2 draw with BSC Young Boys. Hans Hügi
Hans Hügi, known as Hügi (I), (29 September 1926 - 1 February 2000) was a Swiss footballer who played twelve years for FC Basel and two seasons for Young Fellows Zürich as defender. Football career Between the years 1947 and 1959 Hügi (I) played a total of 296 games for Basel scoring a total of 56 goals. 226 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 24 in the Swiss Cup and 76 were friendly games. He scored 38 goal in the domestic league, five in the Swiss Cup and the other 14 were scored during the test games. Hügi (I) played his debut in domestic league game in the Landhof on 23 May 1948 in the game against Locarno. Hans-Rudolf Fitze
Hans-Rudolf Fitze (* 3 September 1925; † 13 September 1982) was a Swiss footballer who played for nearly his entire football career for FC Basel. He played as defender Football career In summer 1947 Fitze moved from his home club FC Birsfelden to FC Basel. Between the years 1947 and 1958 he played a total of 237 games for Basel scoring a total of four goals. 151 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 24 in the Swiss Cup and 62 were friendly games. He scored one sole goal in the domestic league, two in the Cup and the other goal was scored during the test games. Werner Bopp
Werner Bopp (* 12 February 1924; † 22 October 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played nearly his entire career for FC Basel. He played mainly in the position as defender. Football career Between the years 1944 and 1960 Bopp played a total of 496 games for Basel scoring a total of 20 goals. 321 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 43 in the Swiss Cup and 132 were friendly games. He scored 13 goal in the domestic league, two in the Swiss Cup and the other five were scored during the test games. In his first season Bopp played in three test games before he played his debut in domestic league game on 18 March 1945 against Lausanne Sports. Werner Schley
Werner Schley (born 25 January 1935 – 30 May 2007) was a Swiss footballer who played as a goalkeeper during the 1950s and 1960s. Schley was born in Basel and he died whilst he was in Mallorca, Spain. Football career Club career Schley played his youth football with Nordstern Basel and advanced to their first team in 1951. At that time they played in the Nationalliga B, the second tier of Swiss football. In that season Schley played between the posts in 16 of the 26 games, but could not save the team from suffering relegation. FC Grenchen
FC Grenchen is a Swiss football club, based in Grenchen. They currently play in the 2. Liga, and play their matches at the Brühl Stadium. History FC Grenchen was founded in 1906.
