During the 1949–50 in English football, 1949–50 English football season, Brentford F.C., Brentford competed in the Football League Second Division. In his first season as manager, Jackie Gibbons guided the club to a 9th-place finish, a marked improvement on near-relegations in the previous two seasons. Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. Ken Coote
Kenneth Alexander Coote (19 May 1928 – 2 August 2003) was an English footballer. He is best remembered for his 14 years as a full back and utility player with Brentford, for whom he tops the all-time appearances list with 559 and was also captain of the club. In 2013, Coote placed second in a Football League 125th Anniversary poll of Brentford's best ever captains and he is a member of the club's Hall of Fame. Club career Early years Coote began his career as a youth at Alperton Old Boys, a team managed by the father of future England manager Ron Greenwood. He moved on to join Middlesex Senior League club Wembley as an amateur and impressed enough to spend two weeks on trial at First Division club Burnley in the spring of 1949. Vivian Woodward was a Welsh professional footballer who played in the Football League for Fulham, Aldershot, Millwall and Brentford as an inside forward. He represented Wales in a wartime international match in 1941. Career Early years in non-League football An inside forward, Woodward played for hometown club Troed-y-rhiw as a youth and moved to Southern League club Folkestone in 1933 and departed in 1936. Football League (1936–1951) In January 1936, Woodard earned a move to the Football League with Second Division club Fulham for a £300 fee. Fred Monk
Frederick John Monk (9 October 1920 – October 1987) was an English professional footballer and coach who played in Football League for Brentford and Aldershot. He is best remembered for his time with Brentford, for whom he made over 200 appearances and served as caretaker manager. He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in May 2015. A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Alfred Jefferies (9 February 1922 – 9 February 1998) was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Brentford and Torquay United. Career Early years A goalkeeper, Jefferies began his career as an amateur with Arsenal, before signing for hometown Isthmian League club Oxford City and making an appearance in the club's final competitive match before the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Edward Gaskell (19 December 1916 – 10 February 2009) was an English professional footballer, coach and manager. He is best remembered for his time in the Football League with Brentford, with whom he had a 15-year association as a goalkeeper and coach. He also held coaching positions at non-League clubs Hendon, Wealdstone, Southall and with the Football Association at Lilleshall.
