Eddie South
Edward Otha South (November 27, 1904 – April 25, 1962) was an American jazz violinist. Biography South studied classical music in Budapest, Paris, and Chicago. He turned to jazz because, as a Black musician, there was no room for him in classical music. In the 1920s he was a member of jazz orchestras led by Charlie Elgar, Erskine Tate, and Jimmy Wade. From 1928 to 1930, he was touring in Europe with his band, Eddie South's Alabamians, with whom he had already made several records. He recorded during this tour as well. During this tour, the Alabamians had an extended stay in Venice, in 1928, at the Luna Hotel. He led a band in the early 1930s that included Milt Hinton and Everett Barksdale. In 1937 he recorded in Paris with Stephane Grappelli, Django Reinhardt, and Michel Warlop. In 1945 he worked for the studio band at WMGM in New York City. Pierre Dørge
Pierre Dørge (born 28 February 1946) is a Danish avant-garde jazz guitarist. As leader of the New Jungle Orchestra, he combined traditional and modern jazz with West African Highlife guitar music. Among his collaborators have been his wife, pianist Irene Becker, saxophonist John Tchicai, bassist Johnny Dyani, and percussionist Marilyn Mazur. Career A native of Copenhagen, Dorge belonged to a free-jazz big band from 1969 to 1971 that was led by John Tchicai. As leader of Thermaenius in 1978, he borrowed from Balkan folk music. Two years later, he led the New Jungle Orchestra, borrowing from African styles. He has worked with Johnny Dyani, Khan Jamal, David Murray, and Don Cherry. All About Jazz
''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. In 2015, Ricci said the site received a peak of 1.3 million readers per month in 2007. Another source said that the site has over 500,000 readers around the world. Ricci was born in Philadelphia. He heard classical and jazz from his father's music collection. He played trumpet and went to his first jazz concert when he was eight. Mike Renzi
Michael Ernest Renzi (April 28, 1941 – September 29, 2021) was an American composer, music director, pianist, and jazz musician. Renzi graduated from the Boston Conservatory in 1973 and from Berklee College of Music in 1974. He was a musical director for Peggy Lee and Mel Tormé for over 25 years. He worked on ''Sesame Street'' as the music director for seasons 31 through 40 and led the Mike Renzi Trio. He died in Newport, Rhode Island, on September 28, 2021, at the age of 80. Tullio De Piscopo
Tullio De Piscopo (born 24 February 1946 in Naples, Italy) is an Italian drummer, percussionist and singer- songwriter. De Piscopo was born in Naples. His father was an orchestra percussionist. In 1969 he moved to Turin and two years later he moved to Milan, where he joined the Franco Cerri quintet. He later began a successful career as session drummer, playing with many international artists, including Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Stéphane Grappelli, Massimo Urbani, Gil Evans, Slide Hampton, Don Costa, Tony Scott, Ástor Piazzolla, Aldemaro Romero, Gato Barbieri, Eumir Deodato, Mina, Lucio Dalla, Franco Battiato, Fabrizio De André, Pino Daniele, Manu Chao and others. Between the 1970s and 1980s, De Piscopo played on several occasions with bassist-arranger Pino Presti, with whom he established one of the top rhythm sessions in the Italian music scene. Tom Grant (jazz Musician)
Tom Grant (born February 22, 1946) is an American smooth jazz/jazz fusion pianist and vocalist. Biography Tom Grant was born in Portland, Oregon, to a musical family. His father was a tap dancer who owned a record store in Portland, and his brother, Mukunda Goswami, was an avant-garde jazz pianist (as Michael Grant) until becoming a pioneer from the beginning of the Hare Krishna movement. Grant learned to play piano and drums when he was young. After graduating from the University of Oregon, he traveled to New York City in 1970 with Native American saxophonist Jim Pepper. This led to Grant touring and recording with jazz greats Woody Shaw, Charles Lloyd, and Tony Williams. Grant cut his first solo record for Timeless in 1976, and in 1979 he formed his own band. Terry Bradds
Terry Lee Bradds (born February 21, 1946) is an American guitarist who was born in Jamestown, Ohio and attended Greeneview High School. Career Bradds has been playing guitar since the age of five. He has performed with a wide variety of musicians and entertainers worldwide, including Martha Raye, John Davidson, Peter Allen. He was a member of the Hi-Landers and The ThreeO, the latter of which was originally signed to Sun Records. He has played at clubs and venues such as the Copacabana, The Martinique, Playboy Club, and as well as many churches and colleges across the country. While with the Hi-Landers, the group was scheduled to be on ''The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson''.
