Division Of Wimmera
The Division of Wimmera was an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. It was named after the Wimmera region in which it was located. It originally encompassed the towns of Mildura, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal, but by the time it was abolished in 1977, it had drifted south and grown smaller to only include Ararat, Horsham Horsham is a market town on the upper reaches of the River Arun on the fringe of the Weald in West Sussex, England. Alexander Wilson (Australian Politician)
Alexander Wilson (7 June 1889 – 26 January 1954) was an Australian wheat farmer and federal politician who played a key role in the downfall of the Fadden Government in 1941. Biography Born in County Down, Ulster, Ireland (now in Northern Ireland), Wilson was educated in Belfast and migrated to Australia in 1908, becoming a farmer at Ultima, Victoria. Wilson was a prominent leader of Victorian wheat growers who successfully stood as a candidate at the 1937 Australian election for the House of Representatives seat of Wimmera against the sitting Country Party member Hugh McClelland.Abjorensen, p. 116. Psephos: Adam Carr's Electoral Archive is an online archive of election statistics, and claims to be the world's largest online resource of such information. Psephos is maintained by Dr Adam Carr, of Melbourne, Australia, a historian and former aide to Australian MP Michael Danby and Senator David Feeney. It includes detailed statistics for presidential and legislative elections from 182 countries, with at least some statistics for every country that has what Carr considers to be genuine national elections. Winton Turnbull
Sir Winton George Turnbull, (13 December 1899 – 15 January 1980) was an Australian politician. Early life Turnbull was born at Hamilton, Victoria to farmer Adam Beverly Turnbull and Georgina Agnes, née Drummond. He was mostly educated by his mother, although he did attend state schools for short periods. Following his father's death in 1922, Turnbull and his mother moved to Warracknabeal, where he was employed as an auctioneer. He took part in several public speaking competitions before he and his mother moved to Essendon 1933. During this time, he became interested in politics, joining the Country Party. He attempted to run for the Country Party in the House of Representatives seat of Bendigo in 1937, and attempted to take the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Lowan in 1940, but was unsuccessful in both.
