1946 North Korean Local Elections
Elections of the provincial, city and county people's committees(도 시 군 인민위원회 선거) were held in Soviet-occupied North Korea on November 3, 1946. The elections were held for the Pyongyang municipal people's committee(평양 특별시 인민위원회), six provincial people's committees, 12 city people's committees, and 90 county people's committees. The total turnout for the election is 99.6%, with 97% of the total voters participating in the elections of the provincial people's committees, 95.4% in the elections of the city people's committees, and 96.9% in the elections of the county people's committees. A total of 3,459 deputies were elected to the provincial, city and county people's committees, with 1,102 deputies being affiliated with the Workers' Party of North Korea, 352 with the Korean Democratic Party, 253 with the Chondoist Chongu Party, and 1,753 being independents. The National Institute of Korean History (NIKH) is a South Korean national organization in charge of researching, collecting, compiling, promoting the study of historical materials on Korean history. It was established as ''Guksagwan'' (국사관 國史館) in March 1946, one year after the liberation of Korea and was changed to the current name in 1949. As a branch of the Ministry of Education, the Institute certifies and supervises drafts of history textbooks used in middle and high schools. Workers' Party Of North Korea
The Workers' Party of North Korea () was a communist party in North Korea from 1946 to 1949 and was a predecessor of the current Workers' Party of Korea. It was founded at a congress on 28–30 August 1946, by the merger of the northern branch of the Communist Party of Korea and the New People's Party of Korea. Kim Tu-bong, the leader of the New People's Party, was elected chairman of the party, while Chu Yong-ha and Kim Il-sung were elected as vice chairmen. The Korean Social Democratic Party (KSDP) is a political party in North Korea, allied with the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. It was formed on 3 November 1945 as the Korean Democratic Party by a diverse group of medium and small entrepreneurs, merchants, handicraftsmen, petite bourgeoisie, peasants, and Christians. Chondoist Chongu Party
The Chondoist Chongu Party is a popular front party in North Korea. The party was founded on 8 February 1946 by a group of followers of the Ch'ŏndogyo. The party increasingly came under the influence of the government over time and is a part of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea, a nominal alliance of parties dominated by the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. Kangdong County, is one of Pyongyang's two suburban counties. In 1983 it was separated from South P'yongan Province and assumed direct governance by the Pyongyang City People's Committee. South Pyongan Province (Phyŏngannamdo; ) is a province of North Korea. The province was formed in 1896 from the southern half of the former Pyongan Province, remained a province of Korea until 1945, then became a province of North Korea. Its capital is Pyongsong.
