1946 NFL Draft
The 1946 NFL draft was held on January 14, 1946, at the Commodore Hotel in New York City, New York. The selections were initially withheld from the public out of fear that the newly formed All-America Football Conference would sign away players selected high. With the first overall pick of the draft, the Boston Yanks selected quarterback Frank Dancewicz. The most notable draft choice in this player selection meeting was made by the Washington Redskins and remains one of the biggest draft blunders of all time. They chose Cal Rossi with the 9th overall pick, but Rossi, a junior at UCLA, was not eligible to be drafted. They chose him again in the 1947 NFL draft, but he never played football professionally. Hyatt Grand Central New York
The Hyatt Grand Central New York is a hotel located at 109 East 42nd Street (Manhattan), 42nd Street, adjoining Grand Central Terminal, in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. It operated as the 2,000-room Commodore Hotel between 1919 and 1976, before hotel chain Hyatt and real estate developer Donald Trump converted the hotel to the 1,400-room Grand Hyatt New York between 1978 and 1980. , the hotel is planned to be replaced with a skyscraper named 175 Park Avenue, Project Commodore. Harmon Beasley Rowe (August 22, 1923 – January 26, 2002) was an American football player who played at the defensive back and halfback positions. A native of Livingston, Texas, he played college football for the Baylor Bears and San Francisco Dons. Elmer Angsman
Elmer Joseph "Bud" Angsman Jr. (December 11, 1925 – April 11, 2002) was an American professional football player who was a halfback for the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1952. He was the leading rusher on the 1947 Cardinals team that won the NFL championship. In the 1947 NFL Championship Game, he set a championship game record with 159 rushing yards, including two runs of 70 yards each. In both 1948 and 1949, he ranked second in the NFL in rushing yards per carry and third in total rushing yards. After the 1950 season, he was selected to the inaugural Pro Bowl. Angsman also played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 1943 to 1945. As a 17-year-old freshman, he was a reserve player on their 1943 team that won a national championship. Cal Rossi
Calvin Rossi (March 14, 1924 – January 23, 2013) was an American football running back who played at the University of California, Los Angeles. College career Rossi played college football at the University of California, Los Angeles as a halfback and defensive back. During his career, he rushed for 1,490 yards on 255 carries, which put him third on the all-time list. His career rushing average of 5.85 yards per carry was the highest in school history at the time. In addition, Rossi's 169 rushing yards against the University of Oregon in 1945 stood as a school record for 15 years. He ended his career with seven interceptions, including a team-leading three picks in 1947. Rossi was the second leading rusher in the nation before being transferred to the Naval Corps Supply School at Harvard University as part of his military service requirements.
