Eddie Malanowicz
Edmund Eugene Malanowicz (December 30, 1910 – September 5, 1967) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He played in the National Basketball League for the Buffalo Bisons during the 1937–38 season and averaged 7.2 points per game. He served as the head coach for the Rochester Royals from 1945–46 through 1947–48, then as an assistant from 1948–49 through 1950–51. During this time, the Royals transitioned from the NBL to the BAA to the NBA. Thomas Richardson (born July 26, 1956) is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, Tommy “Wildfire” Rich. He is a one time former National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Champion and Smoky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. He primarily appeared in Georgia Championship Wrestling and Memphis throughout the 1980s, as well as World Championship Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling throughout the 1990s. The National Basketball League (NBL) was a professional basketball league in the United States established in 1937. After the 1948–49 season, its twelfth, it merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to create the National Basketball Association (NBA). Five current NBA teams trace their history back to the NBL: the Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Sacramento Kings. History The predecessor of this league was the Midwest Basketball Conference (MBC) in 1935. It changed its name in 1937 in an attempt to attract a larger audience. This article is a list of seasons completed by the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They were formerly known as the Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, and the Kansas City Kings. While the Kings were created first as a semiprofessional team in 1923 with the Rochester Seagrams, their professional roots began in 1945 with their arrival in the National Basektball League, where it won the title in their first season. They joined the Basketball Association of America in 1948, with the league soon rebranding itself as the NBA. The Royals won the NBA title in 1951. After reaching the postseason ten times in twelve professional seasons, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1957. NBL (United States) Rookie Of The Year Award
The National Basketball League Rookie of the Year Award was an annual National Basketball League (NBL) award given to the top rookie(s) of the regular season in each of the twelve years the league existed. The Rookie of the Year was selected by sports writers, broadcasters, coaches, and managers. Despite the dozens of teams that played in the NBL through its history, three of them collectively dominated the award's recipients. The Indianapolis Kautskys and Sheboygan Red Skins had three winners each, while the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots had two, for a combined eight of the twelve awards bestowed (66.7%). Bernard Voorheis
Bernard C. Voorheis (May 23, 1922 – January 14, 2010) played professional basketball for the Rochester Royals, appearing in eight games in 1946, a year in which the team won the National Basketball League championship. He grew up in the outlying Rochester suburb of Spencerport, New York, learning to play basketball in his father's barn. In 1938, he graduated from Churchville-Chili High School. In 1946, he was playing semi-pro basketball for the Atlas Wreckers. Basketball Hall of Famer Les Harrison, the Royals coach at the time, saw Voorheis play and, noting his speed and ball-handling skills, signed him to a contract. Francis David "Buddy" O'Grady (January 19, 1920 – February 19, 1992) was an American professional basketball player and coach. A 5'11" guard (basketball), guard from Georgetown University, O'Grady played professionally in the National Basketball Association, Basketball Association of America from 1946 to 1949. He competed for the Washington Capitols, St. Louis Bombers (NBA), St. Louis Bombers, and Providence Steamrollers and averaged 3.7 points per game. For three seasons from 1949 to 1952, O'Grady served as head coach of Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball, Georgetown University's men's basketball team, with an overall record of 35-36 and no post-season tournament appearances. Delbert Rice Jr. (October 27, 1922 – January 26, 1983) was an American professional baseball player, coach and manager. He played for 17 seasons as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1945 to 1961, most notably for the St. Louis Cardinals. Although Rice was a relatively weak hitter, he sustained a lengthy career in the major leagues due to his valuable defensive abilities.
