The Copa de Competencia Británica George VI was an official Argentine football cup competition, played from 1944 to 1948. It was contested by teams participating in Primera División. The format was a single-elimination tournament and the first editions (1944 and 1945) allowed four semifinalist teams to play the "Copa de la República". The fourth edition was abandoned in the first stage and therefore the Argentine Football Association declared there was not a champion. Club Atlético Independiente () is an Argentine professional sports club, which has its headquarters and stadium in the city of Avellaneda in Greater Buenos Aires. Jaime Sarlanga (February 24, 1916 – August 24, 1966) was an Argentine football forward. He played most of his career for Boca Juniors where he won 7 titles and scored 115 league goals, making him the 5th. highest goalscorer in club's history. Pío Sixto Corcuera (17 July 1921 – 22 November 2011) was an Argentine football striker who played most of his career for Boca Juniors. Career Born in Buenos Aires, Corcuera joined local Club Atlético Boca Juniors at age 17. He made his senior debut entering as a substitute for the injured Jaime Sarlanga in a league match against San Lorenzo de Almagro on 22 June 1941. Corcuera won the Argentine championship with Boca Juniors during 1943 and 1944, participating in the two largest-winning margins for the club (11–1 against Club Atlético Tigre and 10–1 against Chacarita Juniors). Juan Carlos "Toto" Lorenzo (; 27 October 1922 – 14 November 2001) was an Argentine football player and coach. He became an icon for Boca Juniors fans after he coached the club to its first two Copa Libertadores titles. Biography In his teens, Lorenzo played for Chacarita Juniors, and made his professional debut in 1940. He was transferred to Boca Juniors in 1945, and after two years he joined Italian side Sampdoria team, where he remained until 1952. His next clubs would be now-defunct French F.C. Natalio Agustín Pescia (January 1, 1922 – November 11, 1989) was an Argentine football midfielder, born in Dock Sud district of Avellaneda Partido. Ernesto Lazzatti (25 September 1915 - 30 December 1988) was an Argentine football midfielder and sports journalist. As a player, he won 10 titles with Boca Juniors, the only Argentine team where he played. Renato Cesarini (; 11 April 1906 – 24 March 1969) was an Italian-Argentine football player and coach who most notably played for Juventus in Italy as a midfielder or forward. Ezra Sued (7 June 1923 – 21 August 2011) was an Argentine international football striker. Career Born in Once, Buenos Aires, Sued began playing club football for local side Racing Club de Avellaneda. José Salomón (9 July 1916 in La Plata – 22 January 1990) was an Argentine football defender who played club football for Talleres de Remedios de Escalada and Racing Club de Avellaneda and captained the Argentina national football team. Salomón started his career in 1934 with Talleres before moving to Avellaneda to play for Racing Club between 1939 and 1945.
