This is a list of seasons completed by the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are an American football franchise competing as a member of the West division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Cardinals were founded in 1898 in Chicago as an amateur team, the Morgan Athletic Club. They became the Racine Street Normals shortly afterward. In 1901, owner Chris O'Brien acquired some used jerseys from the University of Chicago for the Normals. O'Brien believed that the jerseys had faded so much that they were more cardinal red than maroon, and changed the team's name to the Racine Cardinals. The team disbanded in 1906, but were refounded in 1913. The team did not play in 1918 due to World War I, but were refounded after the Armistice and have played continuously ever since. The Steagles were the team created by the temporary merger of Pennsylvania's two National Football League (NFL) teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, during the 1943 season. 1943 Washington Redskins Season
The 1943 Washington Redskins were the defending NFL champions and finished the regular season at 6–3–1. They lost their last three games, including the final two to the New York Giants, and the two teams finished with identical records. Although the Giants had won both games between the teams, the rules of the time called for a tiebreaker playoff game to determine the Eastern division champion. The extra game was held at the Polo Grounds in New York City, which the underdog Redskins won, 28–0. In a rematch of the previous year's title game, the Redskins met the Chicago Bears in the NFL championship game. 1943 Chicago Bears Season
The 1943 season was the Chicago Bears' 24th in the National Football League. The team failed to match on their 11–0 record from 1942 and finished at 8–1–1, under temporary co-coaches Hunk Anderson and Luke Johnsos. On the way to winning the Western Division, the Bears were, yet again, denied a chance at an undefeated season by the defending champion Redskins in Washington. The Bears had their revenge in the NFL title game and defeated the Redskins at Wrigley Field to claim their sixth league title. Phil Handler
Philip Jacob Handler (July 21, 1908 – December 8, 1968) was an American football player and coach who spent his entire professional career in the city of Chicago. He had a seven-year, 53-game NFL playing career, during which he was named All-Pro four times. On three separate occasions, Handler served as head coach of the Chicago Cardinals, and later as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears. He served as an assistant coach for the Cardinals when they won the 1947 NFL Championship; and with the Bears when they won the 1963 NFL Championship. Early life Handler was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and was Jewish. His parents had immigrated to the United States from Lithuania. He was nicknamed "Motsy." College career Prior to his professional debut, Handler played college football at Texas Christian University. He played at TCU for three years beginning in 1927 under head coach Francis Schmidt.
