1942 Santa Clara Broncos Football Team
The 1942 Santa Clara Broncos football team was an American football team that represented Santa Clara University as an independent during the 1942 college football season. In their seventh season under head coach Buck Shaw, the Broncos compiled a 7–2 record, outscored opponents by a total of 101 to 52, and were ranked No. 15 in the final AP Poll. They were ranked at No. 44 (out of 590 college and military teams) in the final rankings under the Litkenhous Difference by Score System. After winning its first four games against Utah, Stanford, California, and Oregon State, Santa Clara was ranked No. 9 in the AP Poll. The team lost to No. 14 UCLA, then rebounded with three consecutive victories, including victories over rivals San Francisco and Saint Mary's. Crump Stadium
Crump Stadium is a sports stadium in Memphis, Tennessee, built in 1934 and significantly downsized in 2006. It was built as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project with a capacity of 7,500. In 1939 it was enlarged to hold 25,000 spectators. In 1948 and 1949 it staged the Delta Bowl, a college football bowl game. In 1947 the Arkansas–Texas football game was played there. The annual Ole Miss–Tennessee game was also held there in 1960s. Zimmerman Field
Zimmerman Field was a stadium located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It opened in 1938 and hosted the University of New Mexico Lobos football team until they moved to University Stadium in 1960. The stadium continued in use for intramural sports until 1969, when it was demolished to make way for new academic facilities. The stadium held 16,000 people at its peak and was located on the central campus just south of Zimmerman Library, where Ortega Hall, the Humanities building and Woodward Hall currently stand. It featured a three-story Pueblo Revival-style grandstand designed by John Gaw Meem on the west side of the field, located where the CERIA building currently stands. 1942 Albuquerque Army Air Base Flying Kellys Football Team
The 1942 Albuquerque Army Air Base Base Flying Kellys football team, sometimes known as the Flying Colin Kellys, represented Albuquerque Army Air Base (Albuquerque AAB), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the 1942 college football season. The Flying Kellys compiled a 5–4 record, not including an October 30 intra-squad game in which the starters defeated the substitutes. Captain Ted Shipkey (head coach at New Mexico before the war) was the head coach, and Ted Wright was the assistant coach. Wright served as acting head coach against Arizona State due to an injury to Shipkey. The team utilized the "accordion shuffle shift" offense that Shipkey had developed during his tenure as head coach with the New Mexico Lobos. The team was named after Colin Kelly, an Army aviator who was killed when his B-17 Flying Fortress was shot down in combat on December 10, 1941. Ratcliffe Stadium is a collegiate athletic venue in the western United States, located on the campus of Fresno City College in Fresno, California. Opened in 1926, it was renamed in 1941 after their first football coach, Emory Ratcliffe. The stadium hosted the Raisin Bowl and was home to the Fresno State Bulldogs football team through 1979; they moved to their on-campus Bulldog Stadium in 1980.
