The list of Norwegian monarchs ( no, kongerekken or ''kongerekka'') begins in 872: the traditional dating of the Battle of Hafrsfjord, after which victorious King Harald Fairhair merged several petty kingdoms into that of his father. Named after the homonymous geographical region, Harald's realm was later to be known as the Kingdom of Norway. Traditionally established in 872 and existing continuously for over 1,100 years, the Kingdom of Norway is one of the original states of Europe: King Harald V, who has reigned since 1991, is the 64th monarch according to the official list. Helga Hernes
Helga Marie Hernes (born 16 January 1938) is a German-born Norwegian political scientist, diplomat, and politician for the Labour Party. Educated in the United States, she moved to Norway following her marriage to Norwegian sociologist and politician Gudmund Hernes whom she met during her studies. She was on faculty at the at the University of Bergen from 1970 to 1980 and subsequently held a number of positions in research management. Her research during the 1970s and 1980s focused on international politics, women's studies and the welfare state, and she is well known for her concept of state feminism, articulated in 1987. Her recent research has focused on gender, armed conflict and security, including the implications of the UN resolution on women, peace and security. Sverre Olaf Lie
Sverre Olaf Lie (27 February 1938 – 8 March 2023) was a Norwegian pediatrician. He was head of the Pediatric Research Institute at University of Oslo from 1975 till 1989 and chairman and professor at the department of pediatrics at the National Hospital of Norway, Rikshospitalet from 1989 till 2006. Early life Lie was born in Oslo. When he was four years old, his father Bjarne Lie lost his job as a lawyer due to problems with the Nazi authorities. The family moved to Sulitjelma, where Bjarne had got the post as office manager at the Sulitjelma Mines. The early years there were marked by the Nazi occupation. His father was central in the local resistance movement (the leader of the local chapter of XU, a clandestine intelligence organisation), and there was a general scarcity. The family was gifted a barrel of herring from family in the south and they would have herring for dinner every day. In later life, he would never again eat herring! Marie Brenden
Marie Brenden (27 February 1938 – 31 July 2012) was a Norwegian educator and politician for the Labour Party. She was born in Kvam, Nord-Trøndelag as a daughter of smallholders Arnfinn Forfang (1913–1994) and Mimmi Haave (1912–1985). She finished secondary education in 1959, and took teacher's college in 1962. She spent most of her career at the primary school Saksheim in Saksumdal near Fåberg, where she was headmaster from 1979 to 1985. Brenden was a member of the executive committee of Lillehammer municipal council from 1975 to 1983, and of the executive committee of Oppland county council from 1983 to 1987. She was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Oppland in 1985, and was re-elected on two occasions in 1989 and 1993. She served as a deputy representative during the term 1981–1985. Kristian Rambjør
Kristian Rambjør (24 February 1938 – 4 February 2015) was a Norwegian businessperson. He hailed from Frei, but left home at the age of 15 to work at Akers mekaniske verksted in Oslo. He also took a secondary education and a multitude of courses, and then a three-year maritime engineering education in Bergen. Inge Johan Lønning (20 February 1938 – 24 March 2013) was a Norwegian Lutheran theologian and politician for the Conservative Party of Norway. As an academic, he was Professor of Theology and Rector of the University of Oslo during the term 1985–1992. As a politician, he served as President of the European Movement in Norway, as a Member of Parliament, as Vice President of the Parliament, as Vice President of the Conservative Party, and as President of the Nordic Council. Anita Thallaug (born 14 February 1938) is a Norwegian actress and singer. Biography Thallaug was born in Bærum on 14 February 1938. She has featured in musicals, cinema and TV programs. Under the name Vesla Rolfsen, at the age of seven, she was performing at the Spider theatre in Oslo. She featured frequently in NRK children's programs of the 1950s. Per Kristian Norvik (born February 10, 1938) is a Norwegian journalist and editor. Biography Per Kristian Norvik was born in Vadsø, Norway on February 10, 1938. He is the older brother of businessman Harald Norvik and a cousin of politician Erling Norvik. Tor Obrestad
Tor Obrestad (12 February 1938 – 25 January 2020) was a Norwegian novelist, poet and documentary writer. Early and personal life Obrestad was born in Hå on 12 February 1938. His parents were farmer Jon R. Obrestad and Sophie Riise. He studied at the teacher's college in Elverum and worked as a schoolteacher, and then studied at the University of Oslo. He eventually became a full-time writer, and was also assigned as journalist for the newspaper ''Stavanger Aftenblad''. He died on 25 January 2020.
