Christian X Of Denmark
Christian X ( da, Christian Carl Frederik Albert Alexander Vilhelm; 26 September 1870 – 20 April 1947) was King of Denmark from 1912 to his death in 1947, and the only King of Iceland as Kristján X, in the form of a personal union rather than a real union between 1918 and 1944. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, and the first monarch since King Frederick VII born into the Danish royal family; both his father and his grandfather were born as princes of a ducal family from Schleswig. Among his siblings was King Haakon VII of Norway. His son became Frederick IX of Denmark. His character has been described as authoritarian and he strongly stressed the importance of royal dignity and power. His reluctance to fully embrace democracy resulted in the Easter Crisis of 1920, in which he dismissed the democratically elected Social Liberal cabinet with which he disagreed, and installed one of his own choosing. Henning Camre
Henning Camre (born 15 November 1938) is a Danish cinematographer and film industry administrator, currently President of the Think Tank on European Film and Film Policy. He started out as a cinematographer in the first half of the 1970s before he became the principal of first the Danish Film School and then the National Film and Television School in England before he became a Director and reformer of the Danish Film Institute. Biography Henning Camre was born in Randers in 1938 to manufacturer Sigfred Niels Juel Camre and wife Carna Petersen. He was educated at the University of Copenhagen and the newly founded National Film School of Denmark as a cinematographer. In the first half of the 1970s he worked with Danish directors Jørgen Leth and Henrik Stangerup. In 1971 he won a Bodil Award for his cinematography on Stangerup's ''Giv Gud en chance om søndagen''. Karl Madsen
Carl Johan Wilhelm Madsen, commonly known as Karl Madsen, (22 March 1855 – 16 April 1938) was a Danish painter and art historian with close connections to the Skagen Painters. Early life and education Born in Copenhagen on 22 March 1855, Madsen was the son of painters Andreas Peter Madsen and Sophie Thorsøe Madsen. He completed his schooling at Sorø Academy before attending C.V. Nielsen's art school in 1871. From 1872 to 1876, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He was a student of Vilhelm Kyhn and of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1876–1879). Career Madsen was greatly influenced in the early 1860s by the radical new departure in Danish culture, led by Georg Brandes, whose lectures at Copenhagen University he followed, and Holger Drachmann, who published his strong views on Danish art and on disappointing conditions at the Art Academy. upright=0.8, Alfred Schmidt Alfred Michael Roedsted Schmidt (3 May 1858 – 4 April 1938) was a Danish illustrator, caricaturist and painter. He later became known primarily as a cartoonist. Biography Alfred Schmidt was born at Horsens, Denmark. He received lessons from painter and drawing master Frederik Ferdinand Helsted (1809–1875) and later studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1874-1882. His art was featured at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 1883-1886. His ability to skew funny situations made him known and loved in broad circles. He was best known for his satirical drawings of politicians, including a recurring joke about Prime Minister J.C. Christensen being accompanied by a fox as illustration of this politician's cunning. Valdemar Irminger
Valdemar Heinrich Nicolaus Irminger (29 December 1850 – 10 February 1938) was a Danish painter. Biography Born in Copenhagen, Irminger attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1867 and 1873. He went to Italy on a scholarship from 1884 to 1887. In 1888, he won the Academy's medal for ''Motiv fra Børnehospitalet ved Refsnæs'' (View from the Children's Hospital at Refsnæs) and the following year for ''Fra et Børnehospital'' (From a Children's Hospital). His brightly-coloured open-air paintings at Refsnæs are considered to be among his finest works featuring children painted with revealing sensitivity. In 1908, he married the painter Ingeborg Plockross. Painting initially in a Realism (arts), Realist style, from the 1890s he turned to Romanticism.
