The 74th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, DC from January 3, 1935, to January 3, 1937, during the third and fourth years of Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Fifteenth Census of the United States in 1930. The Democrats increased their majorities in both the House and Senate, resulting in a supermajority in both chambers, and along with President Franklin D. Manning Rudolph Johnson AKA Manning Johnson and Manning R. Johnson (December 17, 1908 – July 2, 1959) was a Communist Party USA African-American leader and the party's candidate for U.S. Representative from New York's 22nd congressional district during a special election in 1935. William Bernard Barry (July 21, 1902 – October 20, 1946) was an American lawyer and politician who served six terms a United States Representative from New York from 1935 to 1946. Biography Barry was born in County Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to the United States in 1907 with his parents, Thomas J. and Catherine J. (Hennelly) Barry, who settled in Queens County, New York. He attended public schools and graduated from New York University in 1925 and from New York University School of Law in 1929.
