1929 VFA Season
The 1929 Victorian Football Association season was the 51st season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Northcote Football Club, after it defeated Port Melbourne Football Club, Port Melbourne by 42 points in the Grand Final on 12 October. It was the club's first VFA premiership. Association membership In November 1928, the Oakleigh Football Club applied to join the Association. Oakleigh had been a successful club in the Sub-District Association, had a good quality ground, the growing suburb of Oakleigh provided the team strong support, and the club had been previously considered for Association membership. Oakleigh's application was accepted unanimously. In February 1929, the Sandringham, Victoria, Sandringham council applied to the Association to establish a local senior team in the competition. Northcote Football Club
Northcote Football Club (/ˈnoːθ.kət/), nicknamed The Dragons, was an Australian rules football club which played in the VFA from 1908 until 1987. The club's colours for most of its time in the VFA were green and yellow and it was based in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote. History The earliest mentions of a Northcote Football Club club appear in mid 1869. The club was established as a junior club, and it initially contested the Victorian Junior Football Association. The club played its games at Croxton Park until 1903, before moving to Northcote Park in 1904. The club was successful at junior level during the 1900s, winning premierships in 1904 and 1906. Williamstown Football Club
The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. History The Williamstown Football Club was formed in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. The club was initially considered a junior club, before being granted senior status in 1884. Starting in 1884, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association. Williamstown's original colours were black and yellow. Ted Bourke
Edward Arthur Bourke (17 February 1904 – 27 November 1952) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1920s. Often playing at centre half back, Bourke spent his early football years with Muckatah, Tungamah and Brunswick. He kicked three goals on debut for Richmond in the opening round of the 1924 VFL season and participated in the round robin finals series which took place that year. After crossing to South Melbourne without success in 1927, Bourke missed the entire 1928 football season while he waited for a clearance to the Victorian Football Association. He was signed by Sandringham in 1929 and won the Recorder Cup in his first season. Leo McInerney
Thomas Leo McInerney (24 April 1898 – 29 December 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Percy Rowe
Percival Henry Rowe (4 January 1896 – 27 August 1976) was a player and coach in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Victorian Football Association (VFA). In 1915, Rowe played for Lake Rovers Football Club in the Ovens and Murray Football League grand final when Rutherglen defeated Lake Rovers. In 1924 Percy Rowe coached the Albury Football Club. Percy Rowe coached the Wangaratta Football Club to the 1925 Ovens and Murray Football League premiership. Wangaratta Football Club were runner-up to St. Patrick's Football Club in 1926 under Rowe's coaching. He then returned to Collingwood Football Club and played in their 1927 and 1928 premierships. Bill Koop
William Spehr Koop (21 March 1906 – 14 April 1950) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1920s. Koop did not make much of an impact at Carlton in his first three seasons and left Carlton in 1927 to coach Culcairn Football Club, NSW, before returning to Carlton in 1928. Koop played in two VFL Reserves premierships with Carlton in 1926 and 1928. Koop then had a successful career in the Victorian Football Association as a key position defender, he was a centre half-back in Northcote's 1929 premiership team. He was appointed as captain / coach of Prahran in January, 1931, but had to resign in March, 1931 at the request of the Police Commissioner. Jim Heenan (footballer, Born 1906)
Jim Heenan (18 June 1906 – 23 July 1981) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Heenan was a member of Northcote's 1929 VFA premiership team. He spent the 1930 VFL season with North Melbourne. In round nine, his seventh league appearance, he was reported for striking Richmond player Bert Foster with his elbow, for which he received an eight-game suspension. Coburg City Oval
Coburg City Oval (also currently known as Piranha Park due to naming rights) is an Australian rules football and cricket stadium located in Coburg, Australia. It is home to the Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football League, and the Coburg Cricket Club. The oval was officially opened in 1915. Following the Coburg Football Club's admission to the Victorian Football Association in 1925, the grandstand was constructed, and was officially opened in March 1926.
