Doug Wycoff
Stephen Douglas Wycoff (September 16, 1903 – October 27, 1981) was an American football running back for the New York Giants, Staten Island Stapletons, and Boston Redskins in the National Football League (NFL), the Newark Bears in the first American Football League (AFL), and the Boston Shamrocks in the second American Football League. He played college football at Georgia Tech, where he was a running back and senior captain. Georgia Tech Wycoff prepped in Little Rock, Arkansas, and came to Tech as a package deal with Ike Williams. He was the school's first letterman in four sports. Football Wycoff was a prominent fullback for Bill Alexander's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team from 1923 to 1925. Thompson Stadium (Staten Island)
Thompson Stadium was a football stadium located on Staten Island and used by the Staten Island Stapletons of the National Football League from 1924 until 1933. It was located on the site of present Berta A. Dreyfus Intermediate School 49 and the Stapleton Houses. The stadium was built in the early 1920s by the wealthy owner of the local Thompson's Lumber Company. It was built against a hill in Staten Island's Stapleton neighborhood and doubled in summer as a home for semi-pro baseball. Inside its stockade fence, about 8,000 uncovered bleacher seats encircled the field. The field's locker rooms consisted of sheds standing just outside the fence. Stapleton's owner, Dan Blaine, owned a restaurant which was located next door to the stadium, and after games and practices players and fans would meet up for beers. 1929 Dayton Triangles Season
The 1929 Dayton Triangles season was their tenth and final season in the league before the franchise was sold and moved to Brooklyn. The team did not improve on their previous output of 0–7, losing all six games they played bringing their losing streak up to 17 games. Hence, they were winless for two consecutive seasons. This feat would be duplicated by the 1943 and 1944 Chicago Cardinals; however, the NFL does not consider that to be the longest losing streak, as the Cardinals combined with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1944 season. As a traveling team, they played all six games on the road, finishing twelfth in the league. The Polo Grounds was the name of three stadiums in Upper Manhattan, New York City, used mainly for professional baseball and American football from 1880 through 1963. The original Polo Grounds, opened in 1876 and demolished in 1889, was built for the sport of polo. Frankford Stadium
Frankford Stadium, also known as Yellow Jacket Field, was a football field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that was the home of the Frankford Yellow Jackets football team of the National Football League, which predated the Philadelphia Eagles. The stadium, located at Frankford Avenue & Devereaux Avenue, was the Yellow Jackets' home from 1923 through 1930. On July 27, 1931, a fire caused major damage to the structure, forcing the Yellow Jackets to play their remaining home games at the Baker Bowl and John F. Kennedy Stadium (Philadelphia), Municipal Stadium, before disbanding during the 1931 season. The site was purchased in 1933 by the Franklin Legion Athletic Association, who demolished the structure to build the Franklin Legion Athletic Field.
