Simeon Fess
Simeon Davison Fess (December 11, 1861December 23, 1936) was a Republican politician and educator from Ohio, United States. He served in the United States House of Representatives (1915 to 1923) and U.S. Senate (1923 to 1935). Early life Born on a farm near Harrod, Ohio, to Henry and Barbara (Herring) Fess, he was educated in country schools and graduated at Ohio Northern University (ONU) of Ada in 1889 and married Eva C. Thomas the following year. After graduation, he taught history and law at the university as well was working in the university administration from 1889 to 1896. Fess graduated from the law department at ONU in 1894 and served as dean of that department from 1896 to 1900. He then served as vice president of the university from 1900 to 1902. He left for Illinois to become a graduate student and lecturer at the University of Chicago from 1902 to 1907. Charles Truax
Charles Vilas Truax (February 1, 1887 – August 9, 1935) was an American politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1933 to 1935. Biography Born on a farm near Sycamore, Ohio, Truax attended the public schools and graduated from Sycamore High School. He engaged in the implement business, and afterward, in agricultural pursuits. He was editor of the ''Swine World'' magazine from 1916 to 1921. He was appointed director of agriculture of Ohio by Governor A. Victor Donahey in 1923 and served until 1929. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate in 1928. He engaged in the life insurance business in Columbus, Ohio, in 1928. He was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third and Seventy-fourth Congresses and served from March 4, 1933, until his death in Washington, D.C., August 9, 1935. The 1928 United States Senate elections were elections that coincided with the presidential election of Republican Herbert Hoover. The strong economy helped the Republicans to gain seven seats from the Democrats. Senate Majority leader, Republican Charles Curtis of Kansas, was not up for election this cycle, but he was elected U.S. Vice President. He resigned March 3, 1929, so his seat was vacant at the beginning of the next Congress (March 4, 1929) until April 1, 1929, when a Republican was appointed to continue the term. United States Senate Elections In Ohio
United States Senate elections in Ohio occur when voters in the U.S. state of Ohio select an individual to represent the state in the United States Senate in either of the state's two seats allotted by the Constitution. Regularly scheduled general elections occur on Election Day, coinciding with various other federal, statewide, and local races. Each state is allotted two U.S. Senators elected to staggered six-year terms, which were originally selected by the state legislature. The Senate is divided into three classes to stagger the terms of its members such that one-third of the Senate would be up for re-election every two years. Upon Ohio's admission to the Union in 1803, the state was assigned a Class 1 seat and a Class 3 seat, first elected in 1803.
