Bryndís Pétursdóttir
Bryndís Pétursdóttir (22 September 1928 – 21 September 2020) was an Icelandic actress who performed on film, theatre, radio and television. She was a graduate of both the Verzlunarskóli Íslands and Lárus Pálsson's Drama School performed in multiple productions by the National Theatre of Iceland until 1998. Early life and education On 22 September 1928, Bryndís was born in Vattarnes, Fáskrúðsfjörður. She was the youngest of eight children of the managing director Guðlaug Sigmundsdóttir and the farmer and lighthouse keeper Pétur Sigurðsson. Her schooling occurred at the Verzlunarskóli Íslands, and she went on to matriculate to Lárus Pálsson's Drama School when she was 16 years old. She subsequently graduated from the school. Career Bryndís made her debut on the stage as Cecilía in ''Jónsmessudraum'' at the poverty home on November 18, 1946, under the direction of Pálsson. Gerður Helgadóttir
Gerður Helgadóttir (1928–1975) was an Icelandic sculptor and stained glass artist. She studied at the Art and Craft School of Iceland (MHÍ), in Denmark, at the Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris. Perhaps her most noted work was her stained glass in Skálholt Cathedral and the church in Kópavogur. Haukur Clausen (8 November 1928 – 1 May 2003) was an Olympian and a dentist. Family life Clausen's father was Arreboe Clausen, a merchant and later chauffeur (5 November 1892 – 8 December 1956) and his mother was Sesselja Þorsteinsdóttir Clausen (born 28 December 1905). Haukur had a twin brother, Örn, and a half-brother, Alfreð Clausen (born 1918). On 6 January 1951 Clausen married Margrét Þóra Hallgrímsson, with whom he had Örn Friðrik (born 13 July 1951), but they separated just a year later. He married someone else thereafter, with whom he had Anna Marie (born 25 November 1954) and Haukur Arreboe (born 9 October 1959). His last wife was Elín Hrefna Thorarensen (born 17 February 1944), whom he married on 11 March 1967, and by whom he had Ragnheiður Elín (born 16 May 1968) and Þórunn Erna Clausen, an actress (born 12 September 1975). ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. History ''Morgunblaðið'' was founded by Vilhjálmur Finsen and Ólafur Björnsson, brother of Iceland's first president. The first issue, only eight pages long, was published on 2 November 1913. On 25 February 1964, the paper first printed a caricature by Sigmúnd Jóhannsson which featured the first landings on Surtsey. He became a permanent cartoonist for ''Morgunblaðið'' in 1975 and worked there until October 2008. In a controversial decision, the owners of the paper decided in September 2009 to appoint Davíð Oddsson, a member of the Independence Party, Iceland's longest-serving Prime Minister and former Governor of the Central Bank, as one of the two editors of the paper. Steingrímur Hermannsson
Steingrímur Hermannsson (pronounced ; 22 June 1928 – 1 February 2010) was an Icelandic politician who served as prime minister of Iceland from 1983 to 1987, and again from 1988 to 1991. Early childhood Steingrímur's father was Hermann Jónasson, another former Prime Minister. Being the son of a prominent official, Steingrímur enjoyed a relatively care-free upbringing in a country stricken by the Great Depression. As a young boy he had an exceptional proximity to Iceland's World War II politics, overhearing state affairs being discussed in his father's living room. Education Not wanting to follow his father's footsteps into politics, Steingrímur went to the U.S. in 1948. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1951 and a master's degree from Caltech in 1952.
