The 1927–28 Torquay United F.C. season was Torquay United F.C., Torquay United's first season in the Football League and their first season in Football League Third Division South, Third Division South. The season runs from 1 July 1927 to 30 June 1928. Overview Under the guidance of player-manager Percy Mackrill, Torquay United won the Western section of the Southern Football League, Southern League in 1926–27 Southern Football League, 1927 in only their sixth season as a professional football club. Torquay ( ) is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority, unitary authority area of Torbay. It lies south of the county town of Exeter and east-north-east of Plymouth, on the north of Tor Bay, adjoining the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay and across from the fishing port of Brixham. The town's economy, like Brixham's, was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century it began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort.
