1927 Buffalo Bisons (NFL) Season
The 1927 Buffalo Bisons season was their eighth in the league. The team failed to improve on their previous output of 4–4–2, losing five games and winning none. They finished twelfth (last) in the league. The "Buffalo/Texas Rangers" experiment from the previous season was discontinued (the city's cold weather was the primary reason), and previous head coach Jim Kendrick left the team for the New York Giants. Reverting to the Bisons name, a man with the name Dim Batterson was named as head coach. The team failed to score a single point in all but one game, resulting in a 1.6 point per game average, a near-record low offensive output. The Bisons suspended operations five games into the season and would not return until 1929. Dim Batterson
George Wilder "Dim" Batterson (October 3, 1881 – December 3, 1935) was an American football coach for high school, college and professional teams. Batterson's ability to turn out players of All-American ability and knack of moulding Harvard Cup championship eleven at Masten Park high school in Buffalo, New York earned him the distinction of being one of the most astute scholastic coach in western New York state history. Playing days At the turn of the century, in 1899, 1900 and 1901, Batterson coached and played fullback for the Oakdales, a semi-pro football club from South Buffalo, New York. During that time, he was considered one of the greatest backfield men in upstate New York. 1929 Buffalo Bisons (NFL) Season
The 1929 Buffalo Bisons season was their ninth and final season in the league. The team marginally improved on their previous output of 0–5, winning one game. They finished tenth in the league. After suspending operations halfway through the 1927 season, the Buffalo Bisons, name intact, returned for what turned out to be a farewell season, with Al Jolley (a former player for the Oorang Indians) taking over as head coach. Jolley's dubious trademark was his teams' lack of offensive production; the Bisons never scored more than 7 points in the entire season (they had been shut out thrice) until their final game, a 19–7 win over the Chicago Bears (ironically, the very team that had robbed them of a league title at the peak of the team's success in 1921). Jim Kendrick
James Marcellus Kendrick (August 22, 1893 – November 17, 1941) was a professional American football player during the early years of the National Football League (NFL) with the Toledo Maroons, Canton Bulldogs, Louisville Brecks, Chicago Bears, Hammond Pros, Buffalo Bisons, Rochester Jeffersons, Rock Island Independents, Buffalo Rangers and the New York Giants. Kendrick was a part of the Bulldogs' 1922 NFL championship team and the Giants' 1927 NFL Championship team.
