The 1921 Tour of Flanders was the fifth edition of the Tour of Flanders, a Belgian one-day classic road cycling race, held on 13 March 1921. Ninety cyclists started and thirty-two finished the race, which was won by René Vermandel. In second place was Jules Van Hevel Jules Vanhevel (10 March 1895 in Koekelare – 21 July 1969 in Ostend) was a Belgian racing cyclist. He was a professional from 1919 to 1936. René Vermandel
René Vermandel (23 March 1893 – 20 April 1958) was a Belgian cyclist. He most notably won Liège–Bastogne–Liège in 1923 and 1924, as well as the 1921 Tour of Flanders. He finished in 2nd place in the 1923 Paris–Roubaix and 4th place in the 1921 Paris–Roubaix. He also rode in the 1921 Tour de France. The Tour of Flanders ( nl, Ronde van Vlaanderen), also known as ''De Ronde'' (''"The Tour"''), is an annual road cycling race held in Belgium every spring. The most important cycling race in Flanders, it is part of the UCI World Tour and organized by Flanders Classics. Its nickname is ''Vlaanderens Mooiste'' (Dutch for "Flanders' Finest"). First held in 1913, the Tour of Flanders had its 100th edition in 2016. Today it is one of the five ''monuments'' of cycling, together with Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Giro di Lombardia. It is one of the two major Cobbled classics, anticipating Paris–Roubaix, which is on the calendar one week after the Tour of Flanders. Albert Dejonghe
Albert Dejonghe (Middelkerke, 14 February 1894 — Middelkerke, 23 February 1981) was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer. He won Paris–Roubaix in 1922, one stage in the 1923 Tour de France and finished 5th and 6th in the 1925 and 1926 Tour de France. Career In 1919 following The Great War a race was held touring the battlefields of Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Dejonghe won stage two of the race but did not end up placing highly overall. In 1922 Dejonghe won Paris–Roubaix a cycling monument. He is one of two cyclists to ever win the prestigious race while sporting a mustache. Louis Mottiat (6 July 1889 – 5 June 1972) was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer. Mottiat was born in Bouffioulx, and because of his endurance was nicknamed 'the iron man'.
