The 1919 Georgia Tech Golden Tornado football team represented the Georgia Tech Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology during the 1919 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. John Heisman
John William Heisman (October 23, 1869 – October 3, 1936) was a player and coach of American football, baseball, and basketball, as well as a sportswriter and actor. He served as the head football coach at Oberlin College, Buchtel College (now known as the University of Akron), Auburn University, Clemson University, Georgia Tech, the University of Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College, and Rice University, compiling a career college football record of 186–70–18. Heisman was also the head basketball coach at Georgia Tech, tallying a mark of 9–14, and the head baseball coach at Buchtel, Clemson, and Georgia Tech, amassing a career college baseball record of 199–108–7. He served as the athletic director at Georgia Tech and Rice. While at Georgia Tech, he was also the president of the Atlanta Crackers baseball team. Georgia Tech–Vanderbilt Football Rivalry
The Georgia Tech–Vanderbilt football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Vanderbilt Commodores. Both universities are founding members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Southern Conference (SoCon) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). Georgia Tech leads the series all time 20–15–3. In the 1910s, both programs were coached by men inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame: Dan McGugin and John Heisman. Marshall Franklin "Shorty" Guill (September 20, 1897 – May 11, 1931) was an American football and baseball player for the Georgia Tech Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of the ANAK Society. He graduated with an M. E. in 1918. Early years Guill was born in Sparta, Georgia on September 20, 1897 to Marshall Abner Guill and Zella Ada Moore. Georgia Tech Guill was a prominent quarterback and end on John Heisman's Georgia Tech Golden Tornado football team. 1916 He played during Tech's 222–0 rout of Cumberland in 1916. 1917 Guill was a starter for the school's first national championship team in 1917, which outscored opponents 491 to 17. 1919 Guill played as quarterback for much of 1919, shifted to end in the latter part of the year for newcomer Jack McDonough. Walter Benjamin "Jogger" Elcock (December 6, 1888 – June 10, 1964) was an American football player, coach, and referee. He played college football at Dartmouth College as a tackle from 1909 to 1911. The Auburn–Georgia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Auburn leads the series 47–41–4. Series history The first game took place on November 25, 1892, in Atlanta, Georgia. They played in the SIAA until it was defunct in 1922, before joining the Southeastern Conference. Georgia Tech left the SEC in 1963, playing as an independent until joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1980. Despite no longer being conference opponents, they played annually until 1987. The rivalry was renewed for a home and home series played in 2003 and 2005. There are no future games currently scheduled.
