1918 VFL Season
The 1918 VFL season was the 22nd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. Played during the final year of World War I, eight of the league's nine senior clubs competed, an increase of two from the previous year with only absent. The season ran from 11 May until 7 September, and comprised a 14-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the South Melbourne Football Club for the second time, after it defeated by five points in the 1918 VFL Grand Final. Ern Cowley
Ernest Clyde Cowley (17 August 1892 – 20 October 1975) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Background Cowley came to Carlton from Brunswick and had a strong debut season, kicking 35 goals to top the VFL's goalkicking. He played just one more year with Carlton before returning to the VFA where he joined Prahran. Cowley was also a proficient baseball pitcher who represented Victoria in interstate competition. Collingwood Football Club

Essendon Association Football Club
Essendon (Association) Football Club (often shortened to Essendon 'A') was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1900 until 1921. The ''Dreadnoughts'' wore black and red, and played their home games at the Essendon Recreation Reserve (known today as Windy Hill). They were also known by the name "Essendon Town" (1900–1904), in order to distinguish them from the Essendon Football Club that played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL).
