Richmond (Nova Scotia Provincial Electoral District)
Richmond is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Replacing the former district of Richmond-Cape Breton West, it was created in 1933 when the counties of Cape Breton and Richmond were divided into three new electoral districts. In 1992, it was renamed Richmond. In 2013, at the recommendation of the Electoral Boundaries Commission, the district was renamed Cape Breton-Richmond, gained the town of Port Hawkesbury from Inverness and expanded northeast to include the area east of East Bay and west of the Mira River to Morley Road from Cape Breton West. Following the 2019 electoral boundary review, it lost Port Hawkesbury to Inverness and some territory to Cape Breton East, and reverted to the name Richmond. Joseph William (Willie) Comeau (March 12, 1876 – January 11, 1966) was a Canadian educator and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Digby County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1907 to 1925 and from 1928 to 1948 as a Liberal member. Comeau sat for Clare division in the Senate of Canada from 1948 to 1966. Obediah Parker Goucher (February 2, 1865 – June 12, 1947) was a school teacher, insurance agent and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Annapolis County from 1925 to 1933 as a Liberal-Conservative member. He was born in Melvern Square, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, the son of W. Henry Goucher and Margaret Parker. He was educated at the provincial normal school and Acadia University. In 1893, he married Ardellice K. Dodge. Goucher was mayor of Middleton from 1912 to 1915. Orlando Tilestone Daniels (March 20, 1860 – May 21, 1927) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Annapolis County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a Liberal from 1906 to 1925. Annapolis is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The district was created in 1867 and was abolished in 1953 when it was re-distributed into Annapolis East and Annapolis West. The district was re-formed in 1993 and its boundaries were changed following the 2012 electoral reform commission to include the portion of Digby-Annapolis within Annapolis County north of Maitland Bridge. Harry Hatheway Marshall (November 27, 1873 – August 3, 1950) was an American-born lumberman and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Digby County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1911 to 1916 as a Liberal-Conservative member. He was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Richard Marshall and Emily Hunt, and came to Nova Scotia with his family in 1873. He married Lillian Bell. Marshall served as a member of the municipal council. Marshall was elected to the provincial assembly in a 1911 by-election held after Allen Ellsworth Wall resigned his seat to run for a seat in the House of Commons. He was Supervisor of Fisheries from 1916 to 1942. Shelburne is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1867 and 2013 and since 2021. Since 2021 and between 1933 and 2013 it has elected one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly; from 1867 to 1933 it elected two members. The electoral district includes Shelburne County in its entirety. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral districts of Queens-Shelburne and Argyle-Barrington.
