Irish Parliamentary Party
The Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP; commonly called the Irish Party or the Home Rule Party) was formed in 1874 by Isaac Butt, the leader of the Nationalist Party, replacing the Home Rule League, as official parliamentary party for Irish nationalist Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to the House of Commons at Westminster within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland up until 1918. Its central objectives were legislative independence for Ireland and land reform. Its constitutional movement was instrumental in laying the groundwork for Irish self-government through three Irish Home Rule bills. Origins The IPP evolved out of the Home Rule League which Isaac Butt founded after he defected from the Irish Conservative Party in 1873. Edmund Haviland-Burke
Edmund Haviland-Burke (1864 – 12 October 1914) was an Irish politician. The son of Edmund Haviland-Burke, Member of Parliament for Christchurch, and a collateral descendant of Edmund Burke, Haviland-Burke was educated privately at various locations in Europe. He then joined the staff of the ''Manchester Guardian'', for which he reported on the Greco-Turkish War.Michael Stenton and Stephen Lees, ''Who's Who of British Members of Parliament'', vol.2, p.163 Haviland-Burke was an Irish nationalist, and a supporter of Charles Stewart Parnell. Settling in Dublin, he stood unsuccessfully for the Irish National League in North Kerry at the 1892 general election, South Dublin in 1895, and North Louth at the 1900 general election. In that election, he also stood in Tullamore, where he finally took a seat. In Parliament, he served as a whip for the Irish Parliamentary Party. Edward John Graham
Edward John Graham (14 July 1866 – 24 March 1918) was an Irish nationalist politician and Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was elected as an Independent Nationalist MP at the December 1914 Tullamore by-election, following the death of the incumbent Irish Parliamentary Party MP, Edmund Haviland-Burke. He died in office in March 1918 and the by-election for his seat was won by the Sinn Féin candidate Patrick McCartan, who stood unopposed.
