1913 College Football Season
The 1913 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing Auburn, Chicago, and Harvard as having been selected national champions. All three teams finished with undefeated records. Chicago and Harvard officially claim national championships for the 1913 season. Chicago was also the champion of the Western Conference, Missouri was champion of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA), and Colorado won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 1913 German Football Championship
The 1913 German football championship, the 11th edition of the competition, was won by VfB Leipzig, defeating Duisburger SV 3–1 in the final. VfB Leipzig won its third national championship, having previously taken out the title in 1903 and 1906 as well as making a losing appearance in the 1911 final. Leipzig became the first club to win three German championships and would make another appearance in the final in 1914, the last in the club's history. For Duisburger SV it was the sole appearance in the championship final. Leipzig's Paul Pömpner was the top scorer of the 1913 championship, with five goals. Nominally eight clubs qualified for the competition played in knock-out format, the champions of each of the seven regional football championships as well as the defending German champions. 1913 VFL Season
The 1913 VFL season was the 17th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured ten clubs, ran from 26 April until 27 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Fitzroy Football Club for the fifth time, after it defeated by 13 points in the 1913 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1913, the VFL competition consisted of ten teams of 18 on-the-field players each, with no "reserves", although any of the 18 players who had left the playing field for any reason could later resume their place on the field at any time during the match. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season.
