The Norwegian monarch is the head of state of Norway, which is a constitutional and hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system. The Norwegian monarchy can trace its line back to the reign of Harald Fairhair and the previous petty kingdoms which were united to form Norway; it has been in unions with both Sweden and Denmark for long periods. The present monarch is King Harald V, who has reigned since 17 January 1991, succeeding his father, Olav V. The heir apparent is his only son, Crown Prince Haakon. Kai Christian Middelthon Holst (24 February 1913 – 27 June 1945) was a Norwegian seaman, fur farmer and resistance fighter during World War II.''Fra varm til kald krig'', 89–92 When the leadership of Milorg was torn up by the Gestapo in 1942, he acquired a leading role in the organisation and participated in re-establishing the central leadership (Sentralledelsen, SL) of Milorg together with Jens Christian Hauge. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. Sigurd Valvatne
Sigurd Valvatne (1 May 1913 – 17 December 2004) was a Norwegian naval officer. He was born in Kvinnherad to Arnfinn Valvatne and Kaia Sundnes. He graduated as naval officer in 1937, and further graduated from submarine training in 1939. During the Second World War he served as submarine commander. His war decorations include the Norwegian War Cross with Sword, the St. Olav's Medal with Oak Branch, the Norwegian War Medal, the Defence Medal 1940–1945, and the Haakon VII 70th Anniversary Medal, the British Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Atlantic Star and the 1939–1945 Star. Harald Noreng
Harald Noreng (25 April 1913 – 7 February 2006) was a Norwegian literary researcher and lexicographer. Personal life He was born on the island of Hisøya in the municipality of Hisøy in 1913. He was the son of boat builder Johan Wilhelm Hanssen (1887–1967) and Kathrine Marie Pettersen (1888–1971). He changed his last name from Hanssen to Noreng in 1933. In February 1941 he married jurist Alice Schwabe-Hansen (1915–2004). They had two children, Øystein Noreng (1942–) and Astrid Noreng Sjølie (1946–). Career He finished his secondary education in 1932, and enrolled in philology at the University of Oslo. He took the cand.philol. degree in 1940 with the thesis ''Nils Kjær og nyromantikken''. Arne Sæter
Arne Sæter (21 August 1913 in Surnadal – 14 September 1973) was a Norwegian politician for the Christian Democratic Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Møre og Romsdal in 1969. Shortly before the end of his term, he died and was replaced by Sverre Moen. On the local level he was a member of Rindal municipality council from 1959 to 1971, serving as mayor from 1963 to 1967. Per Borten
(3 April 1913 – 20 January 2005) was a Norwegian politician from the Centre Party and the 25th prime minister of Norway from 1965 to 1971. Per Borten is credited for leading the modernization of what was then named Bondepartiet (the Agrarian Party) into today's Centre Party. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works.
