Frank Thompson (coach)
Frank Martin Thompson (April 21, 1886 – September 13, 1918) was an American football and baseball player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Wake Forest University from 1911 to 1913, compiling a record of 5–19. Thompson was also the head baseball coach at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts—now North Carolina State University—from 1908 to 1911 and at Wake Forest from 1913 to 1914. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Thompson graduated from North Carolina A&M in 1909. He played on the school's NC State Wolfpack football, varsity football team from 1905 to 1908 and the NC State Wolfpack baseball, varsity baseball team from 1906 to 1908. Martin served as a lieutenant in 15th Machine Gun Battalion during World War I. He was killed in action on September 13, 1918, at the Battle of Saint-Mihiel. Wake Forest Demon Deacons Football Seasons
This is a list of seasons completed by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team. Representing Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Demon Deacons are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the NCAA Division I FBS. They play their home games out of Truist Field, and are currently led by head coach Dave Clawson. The Demon Deacons began playing football in 1888, competing as an independent for several decades until joining the Southern Conference in 1936. After 17 years in the SoCon, the Deacons joined the ACC as a charter member in 1953, and have competed in the league ever since. Wake Forest won their first ACC championship in 1970, and captured their first Atlantic Division title in 2006, culminating with a victory over Georgia Tech in the 2006 ACC Championship Game. Wearn Field was a ballpark located in Charlotte, North Carolina and home to amateur and professional baseball in Charlotte from 1909 to 1940. Wearn Field was built and owned by Hornets club owner J. H. Wearn alongside his lumber mill. Home plate was at the corner of South Graham and Winona Streets; the right field corner was at South Graham and Commerce. Wake Forest University is a private research university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
