1912 VFA Season
The 1912 Victorian Football Association season was the 36th season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won for the second consecutive time by the Essendon (Association) Football Club, after it defeated in the Grand Final by 21 points on 28 September. It was the club's second and last VFA premiership. Association membership After several years of unsuccessful on-field performances by both clubs, the Association was keen to see an amalgamation between the Preston and Northcote clubs; amalgamations between the two clubs, which represented neighbouring northern suburbs of Melbourne, had been mooted on several occasions since 1908, even before Northcote had joined the Association. Essendon Association Football Club
Essendon (Association) Football Club (often shortened to Essendon 'A') was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1900 until 1921. The ''Dreadnoughts'' wore black and red, and played their home games at the Essendon Recreation Reserve (known today as Windy Hill). They were also known by the name "Essendon Town" (1900–1904), in order to distinguish them from the Essendon Football Club that played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). History The club was formed as Essendon Town in 1900 and joined the VFA that year. Essendon already had a team which competed in the VFL but many locals protested that they were based at East Melbourne instead of Essendon. Williamstown Football Club
The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. History The Williamstown Football Club was formed in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. The club was initially considered a junior club, before being granted senior status in 1884. Starting in 1884, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association. Williamstown's original colours were black and yellow. Victorian Football League
The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. Jack McKenzie (footballer, Born 1881)
John Joseph "Dookie" McKenzie (10 November 1881 – 21 March 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He gained the nickname "Dookie" from his favourite player as a youth, Alex "Dookie" McKenzie, a Carlton and Melbourne player of the 1880s, and 1890s. Family The son of John McKenzie, and Johanna McKenzie, née Scott, John Joseph McKenzie was born in Fitzroy North, Victoria on 10 November 1881. He married twice. His first wife, Mary Ellen McCann (1886-1918) died in July 1918. Their son, John James McKenzie (1908-), played for Essendon in 1929. McKenzie fell on hard times in 1918 when his wife died, leaving him without work and with six children to look after. A fund was set up by the VFL to give him financial support, with many clubs donating money. He married his second wife, Winifred Zipporah Griffiths (1884-1969), née Simmons, in 1922. Broken Hill Football League
The AFL Broken Hill (formerly, Broken Hill Football League) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Broken Hill region of New South Wales, Australia. Although located in the state of New South Wales the league is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). The Broken Hill Football League is in the Murray Mallee Barrier Zone in the South Australian Country Football Championships. Broken Hill
Broken Hill is an inland mining city in the far west of outback New South Wales, Australia. It is near the border with South Australia on the crossing of the Barrier Highway (A32) and the Silver City Highway (B79), in the Barrier Range. It is 315m above sea level, with a hot desert climate, and an average rainfall of 235mm. Dave McNamara
David John McNamara or M'Namara (22 January 1887 – 15 August 1967) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Michael McNamara (1844–1904), and Mary Margaret Mcnamara (1851–1929), née Quinlan, David John McNamara was born at Boosey, near Yarrawonga, Victoria on 22 January 1887. He married Florence Margaret Mary Dobson (1887–1962) in 1909. They had two children: Neil David McNamara (1910–1965), and Beryl Mary McNamara (1912–1989). Vernon Albert Banbury (21 August 1890 – 20 November 1950) was an Australian rules footballer. Prahran Assumption Football Club (), nicknamed The Two Blues, is an Australian rules football club based at Toorak Park in Orrong Road between High Street and Malvern Road, Armadale, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Port Melbourne Football Club
The Port Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed The Borough, is an Australian rules football club based in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Port Melbourne. The club was founded in 1874 and has been competing in the Victorian Football Association/League (VFL) since 1886. Port Melbourne is the most successful club in the VFL, having won 17 senior men's premierships, three more than its nearest rival, Williamstown.
