1910 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Team
The 1910 Arkansas Razorbacks football team represented the University of Arkansas during the 1910 college football season. In their third year under head coach Hugo Bezdek, the Razorbacks compiled a 7–1 record, shut out five of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 221 to 19. The 1910 seasons was the first in which the Arkansas football team was nicknamed "Razorbacks" instead of Cardinals. According to team lore, the change was inspired when coach Bezdek congratulated his undefeated 1909 team by saying they "fought like a band of wild razorback hogs". However, the razorback was gaining fame by 1906 as an indigenous Arkansan hog "that has no fear or reason", and there are published accounts of the nickname being in use for the football team well prior to the 1910 season. Hugo Bezdek
Hugo Francis Bezdek (April 1, 1884 – September 19, 1952) was a Czech American athlete who played American football and was a coach of football, basketball, and baseball. He was the head football coach at the University of Oregon (1906, 1913–1917), the University of Arkansas (1908–1912), Pennsylvania State University (1918–1929), and Delaware Valley College (1949). Bezdek also coached the Mare Island Marines in the 1918 Rose Bowl and the Cleveland Rams of the National Football League (NFL) in 1937 and part of the 1938 season. In addition, Bezdek coached basketball at Oregon (1906–1907, 1913–1917) and Penn State (1919), coached baseball at Arkansas (1909–1913), Oregon (1914–1917) and Penn State (1920–1930), and served as the manager of Major League Baseball's Pittsburgh Pirates (1917–1919). 1910 College Football Season
The 1910 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing Harvard and Pittsburgh as having been retrospectively selected national champions, by four "major selectors" in about 1927, 1947, 1970 and 1980. Only Harvard claims a national championship for the 1910 season. Arkansas–Texas A&M Football Rivalry
The Arkansas–Texas A&M football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies, which started in 1903. Between 1992 and 2008, the schools did not play each other when Arkansas left the Southwest Conference to join the Southeastern Conference. The ''Arkansas Gazette'' was a newspaper in Little Rock, Arkansas, that was published from 1819 to 1991. It was known as the oldest newspaper west of the Mississippi River.
