Marshall Tyler
Marshall Henry "Tip" Tyler (June 12, 1873 – December 16, 1942) was the head coach of the Rhode Island Rams football The Rhode Island Rams football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of Rhode Island located in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) an ... team in the early 20th century. He compiled a 25–22–10 record. He was first hired in 1898 as headmaster of the two-year preparatory high school program of the college. This preparatory school was continued for ten years until 1908, when Tyler moved on to chair the college's Mathematics Department. He was mathematics professor at the college until his death on December 16, 1942. Tyler Hall on the University of Rhode Island campus in Kingston was named in his honor. Westerly High School is a public high school located in Westerly, Rhode Island, United States. The school is part of Westerly Public Schools. History Various incarnations of a high school have been serving students in Westerly since shortly after the American Civil War. Three buildings in the first century (1870–1960) The first Westerly High School was built at 32 Elm Street in 1870. It cost $10,000 to build. Rhode Island–UConn Football Rivalry
The college football rivalry between the University of Connecticut and the University of Rhode Island dates back to the 1890s and was born largely out of proximity, with the schools being less than 60 miles apart. The schools competed in all sports for decades as members of the Yankee Conference. Even though UConn became a charter member of the Big East in 1979, the schools continued to compete in football at the I-AA level as members of the Atlantic 10. The yearly games ended after UConn left the A-10 to move to I-A football in 2000. In 94 meetings since 1897, UConn leads the series 52–34–8.
