New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. Condoublin was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1894 to 1901, in the Condobolin area. History Prior to 1894 the town, then known as Condoublin, was part of the district of Forbes, which returned two members. Multi-member constituencies were abolished in the 1893 redistribution, resulting in the creation of 76 new districts, including Condoublin. Forbes was abolished and largely divided between the new district of Condoublin and the recreated district of The Lachlan, with the remainder going to Cobar. Condoublin also absorbed part of the abolished district of The Bogan. The 1901 New South Wales state election was for 125 electoral districts, with each district returning one member. The election was conducted on the basis of a simple majority or first-past-the-post voting system. In this election, in 32 electorates the winning candidate received less than 50% of the votes, while 13 were uncontested. The average number of enrolled voters per electorate was 2,764, ranging from Wentworth (1,706) to Willoughby (4,854). Of the 125 members of the house prior to the election, 18 had been elected to the new federal parliament, while 7 did not contest the election, and a further 17 were defeated at the election. 81 members (65%) retained a seat after the election. Patrick James Clara (1863 – 20 October 1915) was an Australian politician. He was born in Forbes, the son of Michael Clara. He was a storekeeper, but was bankrupted in 1887 and became a commercial traveller. A member of the Forbes and Waverley Leagues, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1901, winning the seat of Condoublin for the Labor Party. His initial victory was overturned due to voting irregularities, but he won the by-election later that year. He was defeated in 1904 running for Ashburnham. After his political career, he worked as a ganger and a toolsmith. Bulgandramine is a rural cadastral parish in Narromine County, NSW, approximately 370 km north west from Sydney, west of Trangie. It is within the Narromine Council area at 32°37′54″S 148°12′04″ E. Bulganramine is 239 m above sea level. The parish is located on the Bogan River, to the west of the town of Tomingley, New South Wales. The Parkes–Narromine railway line passes through Bulgandramine and the Tomingley West railway station services the district, although passenger services are currently only available as far as Parkes. The traditional owners of the district were Wiradjuri people, who named it Bulganramine, an Aboriginal word meaning 'Aboriginal holding a boomerang'. The Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly, New South Wales's lower chamber of Parliament.
