1900 Yale Bulldogs Football Team
The 1900 Yale Bulldogs football team was an American football team that represented Yale University as an independent during the 1900 college football season. The team finished with a 12–0 record, shut out ten of twelve opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 336 to 10. Malcolm McBride was the head coach, and Gordon Brown was the team captain. Yale is the only team retroactively named as the national champion for 1900 by NCAA-designated "major selectors". Those include the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, National Championship Foundation, and Parke H. Davis. Seven Yale players were selected as consensus first-team players on the 1900 All-America team. The team's consensus All-Americans were: quarterback William Fincke; halfback George B. Malcolm McBride
Malcolm Lee McBride (August 22, 1878 – December 21, 1941) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at Yale University as a halfback and fullback, and was selected as an All-American in 1898 and 1899. McBride was known for his skill as a left-footed kicker. One newspaper described his punts as follows:"Malcolm McBride, who was a Yale fullback, was one of the stars of the kicking game in 1899. He sent a long, low punt that was exceedingly hard to handle. It usually struck the ground and bounded some distance before the backs could recover it." After graduating as part of Yale's class of 1900, McBride returned as the school's head football coach in 1900. James Bloomer
James Ralph Bloomer (September 17, 1880November 12, 1963) was an American football player and real estate broker. He played college football at Yale University. He was a consensus All-American in 1900 while playing at the tackle position for the Yale Bulldogs football team in 1900, 1903, and 1904. Bloomer was born in 1880 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended St. Paul's School in New Hampshire before enrolling at Yale University. He played at the left tackle position for Yale's undefeated 1900 football team. He was a consensus All-American in both 1900 and 1903. Bloomer left Yale in 1901 due to academic difficulties. A press report in February 1901 noted: "The famous young athlete has had trouble with the faculty ever since he began work here, not through inability to do his work, but through too much attention to athletics." The 1900 Carlisle Indians football team represented the Carlisle Indian Industrial School as an independent during the 1900 college football season. Led by second-year head coach Pop Warner, the Indians compiled a record of 6–4–1 and outscored opponents 207 to 92. Carlisle defeated Southern champion Virginia. The Plain (West Point)
The Plain is the parade field at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. The flat terrain of the Plain is in contrast to the varied and hilly terrain of the remainder of the campus. The Plain rises approximately above the Hudson River and has been the site of the longest continually occupied U.S. Army garrison in America since 1778. In its early years, the entire academy was located on the Plain and it was used for varying activities ranging from drill and mounted cavalry maneuvers to an encampment site for summer training to a sports venue. The 1900 Army Cadets football team represented the United States Military Academy in the 1900 college football season. In their fourth and final season under head coach Herman Koehler, the Cadets compiled a 7–3–1 record, shut out seven opponents (including a scoreless tie with Penn State), and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 109 to 68. The team's three losses came in games against Harvard (29–0), national champion Yale (18–0), and Navy (11–7).
