XVIII Army Corps (Wehrmacht)
XVIII. ''Armeekorps'' was formed in Salzburg, Austria, on 1 April 1938, following the Anschluss of Austria into the German Reich. During the life of the XVIII. Armeekorps, they took part in the Polish campaign, Fall Weiss (1939), Fall Weiss, and the campaign in the West 1940 (Fall Gelb and Fall Rot), and performed occupation duties in France. XVIII Corps (German Empire)
The XVIII Army Corps / XVIII AK (german: XVIII. Armee-Korps) was a corps level command of the German Army before and during World War I. As the German Army expanded in the latter part of the 19th century, the XVIII Army Corps was set up on 1 April 1899 in Frankfurt am Main as the ''Generalkommando'' ( headquarters) for the district of Wiesbaden and the Grand Duchy of Hesse. It took over command of 21st Division from XI Corps and the previously separate 25th (Grand Ducal Hessian) Division. It was assigned to the VII Army Inspectorate, but joined the 4th Army at the start of the First World War. It was still in existence at the end of the war, serving in the 17th Army, ''Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht'' on the Western Front. The XVIII Reserve Corps (german: XVIII. Reserve-Korps / XVIII RK) was a corps level command of the German Army in World War I. Formation XVIII Reserve Corps was formed on the outbreak of the war in August 1914 as part of the mobilisation of the Army. It was initially commanded by Generalleutnant Kuno von Steuben, formerly of the Prussian War Academy. The XVIII Corps was a British infantry formation during World War I. It was reactivated, briefly, in Cyprus during World War II as part of a military deception. History British XVIII Corps was formed in France in January 1917 under Lieutenant General Ivor Maxse, Sir Ivor Maxse. From its formation, XVIII Corps Cavalry Regiment was provided by A and B Squadrons, South Irish Horse and B Squadron, 1/1st Hertfordshire Yeomanry. In May 1917, F Squadron South Irish Horse replaced the Herts Yeomanry, and XVIII Corps Cavalry Regiment was also known as 2nd South Irish Horse. It was dissolved in August 1917 when the South Irish Horse went to be retrained as infantry. XVIII Corps was a North Carolina corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Origins and makeup The XVIII Corps was created on December 24, 1862. It was initially composed of five divisions stationed in North Carolina, making it one of the largest in the Union Army (though two were detached to join the X Corps in early 1863), and placed under the command of General John G. Foster. By August 1863, most of the corps' original units were either disbanded or transferred elsewhere, but Brig. Gen. George W.
