The 1899–1900 season is the 26th season of competitive football by Rangers. Overview Rangers played a total of 23 competitive matches during the 1899–1900 season. They finished top of the Scottish Division One with 15 wins from 18 matches, losing only once to Old Firm rivals Celtic. The club again ended the season without the Scottish Cup after losing a semi-final replay to Celtic by 4–0, the original match was drawn 2–2. Neilly Gibson
Neil Gibson (23 February 1873 – January 1947) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Rangers, Partick Thistle and the Scotland national team. Career Adept at playing in either left or right wing half position, Gibson joined Rangers in 1894 from local Larkhall side Royal Albert, where he had been for only a few months after moving from Junior team Larkhall Thistle. During his time at Ibrox, he won four consecutive league titles ( 1898–99 (in which the team won all 18 fixtures), 1899–1900, 1900–01 and 1901–02) as well as the Scottish Cup in 1896–97, 1897–98, and 1902–03 plus five Glasgow Cups and three Glasgow Merchants Charity Cups. He moved to Partick Thistle in 1904, where he remained for five years. He was capped 14 times by Scotland between 1895 and 1905, scoring one goal. John Campbell (footballer, Born 1877)
John William Campbell (2 October 1877 – 20 January 1919) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left for Linthouse, Partick Thistle, Blackburn Rovers, Rangers, West Ham United, Hibernian and the Scotland national team. Life and career Campbell was born in Glasgow and gained the most success in his career with Rangers with whom he won four successive league titles ( 1898–99, 1899–1900, 1900–01 and 1901–02) the first of which Rangers won all 18 of their Scottish league matches. He played alongside Jack Wilkie at four clubs. He also represented Scotland at international level, winning four caps and scoring six goals, including a double in Scotland's biggest ever win – an 11–0 defeat of Ireland in February 1901. He also appeared for the Scottish League XI. After his football career he became a ship's steward, but died aged just 41 from tuberculosis. James Miller (10 February 1871 – 5 February 1907) was a Scottish footballer who played for Sunderland, Rangers and the Scotland national football team as a forward. Club career Initially playing with hometown village team Annbank, Miller was one of several skilled Scottish players brought to Sunderland by manager Tom Watson, which collectively became known as the 'team of all talents'. A player noted for his skill on the ball rather than physical power, he made his debut for the ''Black Cats'' on 13 September 1890 against Burnley, a match Sunderland lost 3–2. David Crawford (9 March 1873 – July 1937) was a Scottish footballer, who played for St Mirren, Rangers and the Scotland national team. Nicol Smith
Nicol Smith (25 December 1873 – 6 January 1905) was a Scottish footballer who played for Rangers. Born in Darvel, Ayrshire, Smith played as a fullback for local sides Vale of Irvine, Royal Albert and Darvel, earning junior international selection, before joining Rangers in 1893. He made only two league appearances in his first season at the club, but by 1893–94, he had established himself in the Rangers team, missing just one of the 18 league fixtures. During that season he was also responsible for bringing Alex Smith (who came from the same village but was not a relation) to the club, and the winger went on to become an important member of the side for the next 20 years. Smith was part of Rangers' first ever Scottish Cup win in 1894, playing in all six games, including the 3–1 final win over Celtic. Robert Scott Gibson Neill (24 September 1875 – 2 March 1913) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian, Liverpool, Rangers and Scotland. He played at centre half and at wing half. John Drummond (13 April 1870 – 24 January 1935) was a Scottish footballer who played as a left back for Falkirk, Rangers and the Scotland national team. Career Drummond joined Rangers from Falkirk (who had yet to join the Scottish Football League) in 1892. John Robertson (footballer, Born 1877)
John Tait Robertson (25 February 1877 – 24 January 1935) was a Scottish football player and manager who played mainly as a left half. He won 16 caps for his country, scoring three goals. Having started his career at Morton, Robertson moved to Everton of the English Football League in 1895, and then Southampton in 1898, with whom he won the Southern Football League in his only season. He then returned to his homeland with Rangers, where he won three consecutive league titles in his first three seasons. Robertson was the first player signed to Chelsea in 1905, and served as their player-manager in their first-ever season, in addition to scoring their first competitive goal.
