The 1893–94 season was the 20th season of competitive football by Rangers. Overview Rangers played a total of 23 competitive matches during the 1893–94 season. They finished a lowly fourth in the Scottish League Division One with only 8 wins from 18 matches. However, the club did win the Scottish Cup after being Celtic in the final by 3–1. Hugh McCreadie opened the scoring in the 55th minute then Barker and John McPherson added to the tally in the following thirteen minutes. Results All results are written with Rangers' score first. Jock Drummond
John Drummond (13 April 1870 – 24 January 1935) was a Scottish footballer who played as a left back for Falkirk, Rangers and the Scotland national team. Career Drummond joined Rangers from Falkirk (who had yet to join the Scottish Football League) in 1892. 1893–94 in Scottish football was the 21st season of competitive football in Scotland and the fourth season of Scottish league football. For the first time there were two divisions in the Scottish Football League, there was no automatic promotion and relegation but the bottom three clubs in Division One and the top three clubs in Division Two were subject to a vote of the remaining First Division clubs. This season also saw the introduction of the Highland Football League. League competitions Scottish Division One Celtic became Scottish Division One champions for the second year in a row, after defeating Rangers 3–2 at Celtic Park on 24 February 1894. Bob Blyth
Robert Fleming Blyth (16 October 1869 – 7 February 1941) was a Scottish footballer and manager for Portsmouth from 1901 to 1904. Football career Blyth was born in Glenbuck, and was a member of the Glenbuck Cherrypickers, playing alongside members of his extended family. From there he was scouted by the Rangers, playing as a wing-half (1891–1894), followed by Preston North End (1894–1899), a brief spell at Dundee (1897), and Portsmouth (1899–1901). Neil Kerr
Neil Kerr (13 April 1871 – 2 December 1901) was a Scottish footballer who played mainly as an outside right, for clubs including Rangers and Liverpool. He played for both clubs in their first seasons in the respective top divisions, featuring in every fixture for Rangers plus the championship play-off as they shared the 1890–91 Scottish Football League title with Dumbarton. He also won the Glasgow Cup with the ''Light Blues'' in 1893. He later re-joined the Govan club after spells with Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and non-league Falkirk, but was only a reserve in his second spell and featured in just four competitive matches, albeit one of these was in the semi-final second replay of the 1897–98 Scottish Cup, helping Rangers reach the final which they went on to win. John Barker (Scottish Footballer)
John Bell Barker (28 June 1869 – 29 June 1941) was a Scottish footballer who played for Linthouse, Rangers and the Scotland national team in the 1890s. Life and career Barker was born in Govan (then a separate burgh from neighbouring Glasgow) in 1869, the son of John Barker and Margaret Trench Barker. His father worked as a fitter in the shipbuilding industry, which became a major industry in Govan in the mid-19th century. Barker joined Rangers from Linthouse in early 1892 and made an immediate impact by scoring three goals in his first five appearances. He achieved a similar impact at international level, scoring a hat-trick in the first of his two Scotland caps against Wales in March 1893. David Mitchell (29 April 1866 – 6 December 1948) was a Scottish football player, best known for his time with Rangers. Playing career Mitchell joined Rangers from Kilmarnock in September 1889. He was Rangers captain and won two Scottish Football League championships (the shared 1890–91 title and the perfect season of 1898–99), three Scottish Cups (1894, 1897 and 1898), four Glasgow Cups, two Glasgow Football Leagues and one Charity Cup.
