The Norwegian monarch is the head of state of Norway, which is a constitutional and hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system. The Norwegian monarchy can trace its line back to the reign of Harald Fairhair and the previous petty kingdoms which were united to form Norway; it has been in unions with both Sweden and Denmark for long periods. The present monarch is King Harald V, who has reigned since 17 January 1991, succeeding his father, Olav V. The heir apparent is his only son, Crown Prince Haakon. Lauritz Bergendahl
Lauritz Bergendahl (30 January 1887 – 15 April 1964) was a Norwegian Nordic skier who won both the Nordic combined and the 50 km cross-country skiing events at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1910, 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1915. Bergendahl's Holmenkollen 50 km cross-country skiing victories have only been exceeded by one skier (Thorleif Haug) while his Holmenkollen Nordic combined victories have been matched by three others (Johan GrøttumsbrÃ¥ten, Rauno Miettinen, and Bjarte Engen Vik). Olav Berntsen Oksvik
Olav Berntsen Oksvik (7 May 1887 – 16 September 1958) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour and Social Democratic Labour parties. He served as a member of the Parliament of Norway from 1928 until 1952 and then as the County Governor of Møre og Romsdal county from 1952 until his death in 1958. Thomas Aas
Thomas Valentin "Valla" Aass (28 April 1887 – 14 August 1961) was a Norwegian sailor and civil servant in the foreign service. He was born in Kristiania as a son of wholesaler Julius Aas (1832–1909) and Hulda Mathilde Olsen (1848–1929). In 1923 he married lighthouse director's daughter Ingeborg Horn. He finished his secondary education in 1905 and graduated from the Royal Frederick University with the cand.jur. degree in 1911. From 1912 to 1915 he was a deputy to the stipendiary magistrate of Fredrikstad. He competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics as a crew member of the Norwegian boat ''Taifun'', which won the gold medal in the 8 metre class. He represented the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club. Lars Slagsvold
Lars Magnussen Slagsvold (24 April 1887 – 2 September 1959) was a Norwegian veterinarian. He was born in Romedal as a son of farmer Magnus Slagsvold (1854–1921) and Inger Krogstie (1855–1924). He finished his education in 1909 in Copenhagen. After several years of practice he was hired as a head of department in the National Veterinary Institute in 1924. He was a professor at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science from 1936 to 1946, and from 1946 to 1957 he headed the State Animal Authority. Slagsvold was also noted for his work to eliminate the diseases bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis, together with Niels Thorshaug and Halfdan Holth. Peder Morset
Peder Morset (4 April 1887 – 19 May 1943) was a Norwegian teacher and resistance member. Born in Selbu in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, he was the son of Ole Henriksen Morset (1864–1935) and Ingborg Berntine Petersdatter (1864–1947). He was educated as a teacher and began his teaching career in his village. In 1913, Morset married Marit Stugudal (1893–1948). The couple had seven sons. During the German occupation of Norway, Morset came into contact with a group organized by Henry Thingstad in Trondheim. Chairing the local chapter of the Norwegian Teachers' Union (''Norges Lærerlag''), he was also the local representative of the teachers' civil resistance. Several of his sons were also deeply involved in the resistance. Morset and his family helped refugees to flee to Sweden.
