1882 Southern Rugby Union Season
The 1882 New South Wales Rugby Football Union, Southern Rugby Union season was the ninth season of the Shute Shield, Sydney Rugby Premiership. Several clubs competed from May till August 1882. The season culminated in intercolonial matches against a touring Queensland team, and a tour to New Zealand by a team representing the Union. Teams By the beginning of the season, the Southern Rugby Football Union had 35 clubs signed up as part of the Union. The SRFU annual report for 1882, presented at the SRFU annual general meeting in April 1883, mentioned that 12 new clubs had registered with the Union. Queensland Reds
The Queensland Reds is the rugby union team for the Australian state of Queensland that competes in the Southern Hemisphere's Super Rugby competition. Prior to 1996, they were a representative team selected from the rugby union club competitions in Queensland. With the introduction of the professional Super 12 competition they moved to a model where players are contracted to the Reds through the Queensland Rugby Union rather than selected on the basis of club form. From 1996 to 2005 they were one of three Australian teams competing in the Super 12 competition, alongside the New South Wales Waratahs and the ACT Brumbies. Soccer, also known as football, is the most played outdoor club sport in Australia, and ranked in the top ten for television audience as of 2015.
