General Ticket
The general ticket, also known as party block voting (PBV) or ticket voting, is a type of block voting in which voters opt for a party, or a team's set list of candidates, and the highest-polling party/team becomes the winner. Unless specifically altered, this electoral system (''at-large'' voting) results in the victorious political party receiving ''100%'' of the seats. Rarely used today, the general ticket is usually applied in more than one multi-member district, which theoretically allows regionally strong minority parties to win some seats, but the strongest party nationally still typically wins with a landslide. Timothy Pitkin
Timothy Pitkin (January 21, 1766 in Farmington, Connecticut – December 18, 1847 in New Haven, Connecticut) was an American lawyer, politician, and historian. He graduated from Yale in 1785, taught in the academy at Plainfield, Connecticut for a year, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1788. He served in the State Legislature of Connecticut in 1790, 1792, and 1794‑1805, serving as Clerk of the House 1800‑1802 and as Speaker 1803‑1805. He was elected as a Federalist to the United States Congress in the Ninth Congress to fill in part the vacancies caused by the resignations of Calvin Goddard and Roger Griswold; and was reëlected to the Tenth and to the five succeeding Congresses, thus serving from September 16, 1805, to March 3, 1819. Elisha Phelps
Elisha Phelps (November 16, 1779 – April 6, 1847) was a United States representative from Connecticut. He was the son of Noah Phelps and father of John Smith Phelps who was a United States Representative from Missouri. He was born in Simsbury, Connecticut. In 1800, he was graduated from Yale College and from Litchfield Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1803 and began practice in Simsbury. Phelps was member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1807, 1812, and 1814-1818. He was elected as a Toleration Republican to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819 – March 3, 1821). He was again a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1821 and served as speaker. He served in the Connecticut Senate 1822-1824 and was elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses (March 4, 1825 – March 3, 1829). Calvin Willey
Calvin Willey (September 15, 1776August 23, 1858) was an American politician from Connecticut who served in the United States Senate from 1825 to 1831. Early life and education Willey was born in East Haddam, Connecticut, and attended common schools. He began to study law in Hebron, Connecticut, in 1795 and was admitted to the bar in February 1798. Career Willey established a legal practice in Chatham, Connecticut, Chatham and moved to Stafford, Connecticut, Stafford in 1800. He was appointed the first postmaster at Stafford Springs, a position he held from 1806 to 1808. He lived in Stafford until 1808, when he moved to Tolland, Connecticut, Tolland. James Stevens (July 4, 1768 – April 4, 1835) was a U.S. Representative from Connecticut. Born in that part of Stamford which is now the town of New Canaan, Connecticut, Stevens studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Stamford, Connecticut. He served as member of the state house of representatives 1804, 1805 from 1808 to 1810, 1814, 1815, 1817, and 1818. Daniel Burrows (October 26, 1766 – January 23, 1858) was a United States representative from Connecticut. He was the uncle of Lorenzo Burrows who was a United States Representative from New York. He was born at Fort Hill, Connecticut where he pursued preparatory studies. He engaged in the manufacture of carriages and wagons at New London. Later, he studied theology and was ordained as a minister of the Methodist Church. Burrows was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives 1816–1820 and in 1826 and served as a delegate to the Connecticut constitutional convention in 1818.
