John Crowell (Alabama Politician)
Joseph John Crowell (September 18, 1780 – June 25, 1846) was born in Halifax County, North Carolina. He was educated locally. In the War of 1812, he helped to recruit a regiment and was commissioned as a colonel. He moved to Alabama in 1815, serving as Congressional Delegate from the Alabama Territory. In the election of 1818, he became the first member of the House of Representatives from the new state of Alabama. Gabriel Moore
Gabriel Moore (1785 – August 6, 1844) was a Democratic-Republican, later Jacksonian and National Republican politician and fifth governor of the U.S. state of Alabama (1829–1831). Life and politics Moore was born in Stokes County, North Carolina, of English descent and some French descent. He moved to Huntsville, Alabama, in 1810. Moore served in the territorial legislatures, and was elected to the United States Congress in 1821. He was re-elected to the United States Congress in 1827. Moore was the second Representative of the state of Alabama, and the first Representative of its First Congressional District. He served 1 term as representative of the at-large district of Alabama (1821–1823). Moore was one of four candidates in the running. Moore won with 67.57% of the vote. George Washington Owen
George Washington Owen (October 20, 1796 – August 18, 1837) was an American attorney and politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Alabama's 3rd congressional district and the 10th List of mayors of Mobile, Alabama, mayor of Mobile, Alabama, Mobile. Early life and education Owen was born in Brunswick County, Virginia, in 1796, but moved to Tennessee at a young age. He graduated from the University of Nashville, where he studied law. Career Owen was admitted to the Bar association, bar in 1816 and moved to Alabama to practice law. He also served in the Alabama House of Representatives. Owen unsuccessfully ran for United States Congress, Congress in 1821 and successfully in 1823 when he became the first representative of Alabama's 3rd congressional district. Silas Dinsmoor
Silas Dinsmoor (September 26, 1766 – June 17, 1847) was an appointed U. S. Agent to the Cherokee (1794–1798) and to the Choctaw (1801–1813). He later served as a Surveying, surveyor in Alabama before eventually retiring to Boone County, Kentucky, where he is buried at the Dinsmore Homestead. Early life Born in Windham, New Hampshire, Windham, New Hampshire Colony, New Hampshire, Silas Dinsmore was of Scotch-Irish American, Scots-Irish descent and was part of a large group of inter-related families who settled in southern New Hampshire in the early 1700s.
