Birger Martin Hall
Birger Martin Hall (26 August 1741, in Borås – 10 August 1815, in Västerås), was a Swedish district medical officer and botanist. He was soon one of Linnaeus' disciples, but chose medicine in front of botany. Early life Hall was born to a merchant and magistrate in Borås, who was also a Member of Parliament, Petter Börjesson Hall (1707-1776) and Eva Margareta. Eva was an older cousin of the astronomer Pehr Wilhelm Wargentin. Together with his older brother Peter Adolf, Hall studied medicine and 'natural history' between 1753 and 1755 at Uppsala University's medical faculty where Carl Linnaeus taught. In the following years, 1755–59,he pursued further medical studies abroad, under the guidance of master Lars Brisman, including in Greifswald (Swedish Pomerania), Berlin and Hamburg. Charlotta Cedercreutz
Maria ''Charlotta'' Cedercreutz, married surname ''Wrangel'' (1736–1815), was a Swedish artist, lady-in-waiting and baroness. She was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. Her parents were the courtier Baron Lars Cedercreutz and Catharina Siljeström. Despite the fact that her beauty and fortune made her an attractive match, she is said to have dislike the thought of marriage and refused to marry for many years. She was married in 1770 to General Major Baron Georg Gustaf Wrangel af Adinal. From 1774, she was one of the six head ladies in waiting of the court of the Queen, Sophia Magdalena of Denmark. A talented Dilettante artist, she was inducted into the Royal Academy of Arts. At court, she was described as intelligent and cultivated but also very coquettish and particular about rank and attention, and it was said that she participated with eager in the pleasures and intrigues of the court. Lotten Wennberg
Charlotta ''"Lotten"'' Christina Wennberg (3 June 1815 – 4 November 1864), was a Swedish philanthropist. Biography Lotten Wennberg was born in Stockholm to wealthy landowner J. O. Wennberg. During her early life, she spent her winters in the capital, where she participated in society life, and her summers on Yxe Manor in Nora Mountain District, where she handed out supplies to the poor, as was expected from an upper-class woman. However, she expanded her activity and also started collections of funds to also provide the poor from neighboring parishes with supplies. In 1835, her father died: at the time of his death, his affairs were in disorder, and for a while, there was a risk that the family could go bankrupt. This did not happen, but the risk is said to have made her decide to make philanthropy her main task in life. Emilie Risberg
Emilie Charlotta Risberg Emilie Charlotta Risberg (10 June 1815, in Skara – 11 November 1890, in Örebro) was a Swedish writer and reform pedagogue. She founded the Risbergska skolan (Risberg School) in Örebro, and served as its principal in 1863-1878. Emilie Risberg is regarded as an important member of the pioneers of girl's education in the mid 19th century Sweden, who reformed the education of girls by establishing girls' schools which offered proper academic education for females, in contrast to the earlier girl's pensions shallow education. Biography Risberg was the daughter of postmaster Benjamin Risberg and Hedvig Catharina Smedberg. She was educated at home and worked as a governess as an adult. She founded and managed a girls' school in Mariestad in 1842-1850, of which not much is known and which she herself stated was not of high quality, before she moved to Örebro. Maria Cederschiöld (deaconess)
Anna Maria Cederschiöld (20 November 1815 in Växjö - 7 January 1892 in Lund) was a Swedish noble deaconess and nurse. She was a pioneer in the education of deaconesses and nursing in Sweden, and the first head of the first Deaconess institution in Sweden, Ersta diakoni, in 1851-1862. Life She was the daughter of the vicar in Forsheda, Kasper Hakvin Cederschiöld, and Helena Sofia Ingelman. She was engaged to her foster brother, but the engagement was broken by his death, an event which is thought to have caused her interest in religion and introduced her in religious circles. She was educated at home and managed a girls school in Lund in 1848-49, before she was promised the place as head of the future Deaconess Institution, which was at that point planned to be founded in Stockholm.
