Howell Cobb (Elder)
Howell Cobb (August 3, 1772 – May 26, 1818) was an American politician, farmer and soldier. Born in Granville County, North Carolina, Cobb later moved to Louisville, Georgia. From February 23, 1793, until January 31, 1806, Cobb served in various military positions in the United States Army including ensign and lieutenant in the Second Sub Legion and as captain in the Artillerists and Engineers. In 1806, Cobb was elected as Democratic-Republican to the 10th United States Congress, and he was reelected to that position in the 11th, and 12th United States Congresses. He resigned from Congress before October 1812 to accept a captain's commission in the U.S. Army to fight in the War of 1812. After his second period of military service, he returned to his plantation, Cherry Hill, northwest of Louisville. Cobb died there in 1818 and was buried in the family cemetery on that estate. The War of 1812 (18 June 1812 – 17 February 1815) was fought by the United States of America and its indigenous allies against the United Kingdom and its allies in British North America, with limited participation by Spain in Florida. It began when the United States declared war on 18 June 1812 and, although peace terms were agreed upon in the December 1814 Treaty of Ghent, did not officially end until the peace treaty was ratified by Congress on 17 February 1815. William Barnett (March 4, 1761 – April 1832) was an American slave owner, politician and soldier. John Forsyth (Georgia)
John Forsyth Sr. (October 22, 1780October 21, 1841) was a 19th-century American politician from Georgia. He represented the state in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and also served as the 33rd Governor of Georgia. As a supporter of the policies of President Andrew Jackson, Forsyth was appointed the 13th United States Secretary of State by Jackson in 1834, and continued in that role until 1841 during the presidency of Martin Van Buren. He also served as US Minister to Spain during the presidency of James Monroe. Early life Forsyth was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His father, Robert Forsyth, a Scottish immigrant, was the first U.S. Marshal to be killed in the line of duty in 1794. Thomas Telfair
Thomas Telfair (March 2, 1780 – February 18, 1818) was a United States representative from Georgia. Born in Savannah, the third of four sons of Governor Edward Telfair, he graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1805. He went on to study law in Connecticut, was admitted to the bar, and commenced practice in Savannah. Telfair was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the 13th and 14th United States Congresses, serving from March 4, 1813, to March 3, 1817. He died in February 1818 at the age of thirty-one.''Ibid''. August 30, 2015. Like his father's before him, Thomas Telfair's remains were likely interred at the family's plantation and moved, many years later, to Savannah's Evergreen Cemetery. George Dent (1756 – December 2, 1813) was an American planter and politician from Maryland who served in the House of Representatives from 1793 to 1801. Early life Dent was born on his father's estate, "Windsor Castle", on the Mattawoman Creek in Charles County. His father, General John Dent (1733-1809), was a planter who was a patriot during the Revolutionary War. Revolutionary War He initially served during the Revolutionary War in 1776 as a 1st lieutenant in the Third Battalion of the Flying Camp from Maryland. After the Flying Camp was disbanded in December 1776, Dent returned to Maryland and was commissioned a 1st lieutenant in the Charles County militia under Captain Thomas H. Marshall.
