Joseph Bryan
Joseph Bryan (August 18, 1773 – September 12, 1812) was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's at-large congressional district from 1803 to 1806. Early life Bryan was born Savannah, Georgia. He was educated by private tutors and attended the University of Oxford in England. Career Bryan traveled in France during the American Revolutionary War. He later engaged in agricultural pursuits on Wilmington Island, Georgia. Bryan was elected as a Republican to the 8th and 9th United States congresses and served from March 4, 1803, until his resignation in 1806. He engaged in planting and died on his estate, ''Nonchalance'', Wilmington Island, near Savannah in 1812. He was buried in the family burial ground on his estate. Thomas Spalding
Thomas Spalding (March 25, 1774 – January 4, 1851) was a United States representative from Georgia. He was born in Frederica, Georgia, St. Simons Island, Glynn County, Georgia. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1795, but did not practice. He engaged extensively in agricultural pursuits. Early life Thomas Spalding was born March 25, 1774 at Frederica on St. Simons Island to James Spalding and Margery McIntosh. His father was one of the earliest planters to experiment with growing Sea Island Cotton. His father was part of Clan Spalding and traced his ancestry back to the lairds of Ashintully Castle. Thomas Spalding would later in life name his Darien, Georgia mansion after his ancestral Scottish home. Spalding's father was an Indian trader, planter, and held a number of political posts prior to the American Revolution. He was born to the Reverend John Smelt, an Oxford-educated Episcopal clergyman, in Essex County, Virginia. George Troup
George McIntosh Troup (September 8, 1780 – April 26, 1856) was an American politician from the U.S. state of Georgia. He served in the Georgia General Assembly, U.S. House of Representatives, and U.S. Senate before becoming the 32nd Governor of Georgia for two terms and then returning to the U.S. Senate. A believer in expansionist Manifest Destiny policies and a supporter of native Indian removal, Troup was born to planters and supported slavery throughout his career.
