Thomas Ivory
Thomas Ivory (1709–1779) was an English builder and architect, active in Norwich. Life Ivory was born in 1709. His early years and education remain obscure. His earliest recorded large commission was in his capacity as a builder and timber merchant at Thrigby Hall in 1735. He bought the freedom of Norwich in 1745 and was appointed carpenter the Great Hospital in the city in 1751. In May 1750 he had put his house in the parish of St Martin-at-Oak for sale. He then leased a piece of land on the west forecourt of the Great Hospital on which he built a substantial residence for himself, into which he moved in 1756. It is now known as St Helen's House. He went on to build the Assembly House (1754), the neighbouring theatre (1757, since destroyed), the Methodist meeting-house in Bishopsgate Street (1752–3), the Octagon Chapel in Colegate (1754–6) and the artillery barracks (1771). Giuseppe Bonici
Giuseppe Bonici (1707–1779) was a Maltese architect and military engineer. He held the post of ''Capomastro delle Opere della Religione'' and was the principal architect of the Order of St. John from 1761 until his death. He designed several notable buildings; his masterpiece was the Customs House in Valletta. Biography Bonici began drawing architectural plans at a young age, and he was apprenticed to the Maltese architect Giovanni Barbara and later the French military engineer René Jacob de Tigné. He made plans for the St. Publius Parish Church in Floriana in 1734, which solidified his fame as a master of religious architecture. His masterpiece is the Customs House in Valletta, which he designed in 1774. Bonici mainly designed buildings in the Baroque style, even when the style was being superseded by neoclassical architecture in the rest of Europe. Carl Johan Cronstedt (25 April 1709 – 9 November 1779) was a Swedish architect, inventor, count, noble, civil servant, scientist and bibliophile.Quinn, p. 52 Biography Cronstedt was the son of Jakob Cronstedt (Olderman) and Margareta Beata Grundel. He was born in 1709 in Stockholm, Sweden. He married Countess Eva Margareta Lagerberg in 1744. Cronstedt became a pupil of Christopher Polhem in 1729 and in 1733 was his apprentice. He studied civil engineering under Carl Hårleman and in 1743 became his successor as superintendent, a post he held to 1767. Johan Christian Conradi (1709 – 30 September 1779) was a German born, Danish master builder, contractor and architect. Early life and education Conradi was born at Gotha in the Sazon duchy of Saxe-Gotha. He moved to Denmark in 1739 where he was accepted into the masons' guild in 1740. Work as builder In the beginning of his career, Conradi worked as a mason and builder. His first major work as such was Ledreborg (1743–45). In the late 1740s he began routinely working for Niels Eigtved, architect to the Royal Court, executing projects such as the first Royal Danish Theatre at Kongens Nytorv (1748–49, demolished in 1874), Danish Asia Company's warehouse at Asiatisk Plads (1748–50), Christian's Church (1755-64) and the Lindencrone Mansion in Bredgade (1751). Edward Lapidge
Edward Lapidge (1779–1860) was an English architect, who held the post of county surveyor of Surrey and designed Kingston Bridge. Life and career Edward Lapidge was the eldest son of Samuel Lapidge, the head gardener at Hampton Court Palace and one-time assistant of Capability Brown. The Lapidge family lived in a house called The Grove, which still exists, in Lower Teddington Road. In Surrey Lapidge built Esher Place, a brick house, stuccoed in imitation of stone, with an Ionic portico on each side, for John Spicer. He showed a view of the garden front of the house at the Royal Academy in 1808. At Norbiton Place he carried out considerable additions and alterations for its owner, Charles Nicholas Pallmer, including a dairy in the style of an Indian temple.
