Cane Tago
Cane Tago ("The Dog Tago") is a statue erected in Bologna, Italy, in 1777. It was the work of Luigi Acquisti, commissioned by the marquis Tommaso dè Buoi, to celebrate the fidelity of his German Weimaraner hound. The dog had fallen from the windowsill in joy at seeing its master returning from a long journey. The terracotta statue was placed on the spot where the dog was supposed to have fallen, at the de’ Buoi’House, now the seat of the Cultural Department of the Municipality of Bologna in via Oberdan 24. After 200 years, atmospheric damage necessitated restoration, and the statue was subsequently displayed at the local Museum of Archeology. It is now at the Collezioni Comunali d’Arte, inside Palazzo d'Accursio 260px, Palazzo d'Accursio. Palazzo d'Accursio (or Palazzo Comunale) is a palace once formulated to house major administrative offices of the city of Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Thomas Jones (artist)
Thomas Jones (26 September 1742 – 29 April 1803) was a Welsh landscape painter. He was a pupil of Richard Wilson and was best known in his lifetime as a painter of Welsh and Italian landscapes in the style of his master. However, Jones's reputation grew in the 20th century when more unconventional works by him, not originally intended for exhibition, came to light. Most notable among these is a series of views of Naples which he painted from 1782 to 1783. By breaking with the conventions of classical landscape painting in favour of direct observation, they look forward to the work of Camille Corot and the Barbizon School in the 19th century.Chilvers, Ian, ''The Oxford Concise Dictionary of Art and Artists''. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2003 His autobiography, ''Memoirs of Thomas Jones of Penkerrig'', went unpublished until 1951 but is now recognised as an important source of information on the 18th-century art world.Sumner, Ann, "Who was Thomas Jones? Alexander Roslin
Alexander Roslin (spelled Alexandre in French, ; 15 July 17185 July 1793) was a Swedish portrait painter who worked in Scania, Bayreuth, Paris, Italy, Warsaw and St. Petersburg, primarily for members of aristocratic families. He combined insightful psychological portrayal with a skillful representation of fabrics and jewels. He lived in France from 1752 until 1793, a period that spanned most of his career. The painting by Roslin depicting Jeanne Sophie de Vignerot du Plessis, Countess of Egmont Pignatelli, was bought by the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 2006 for US$3 million. George Romney (painter)
George Romney ( – 15 November 1802) was an English portrait painter. He was the most fashionable artist of his day, painting many leading society figures – including his artistic muse, Emma Hamilton, mistress of Lord Nelson. Early life and training Romney was born in Beckside in Dalton-in-Furness, Lancashire (now in Cumbria), the 3rd son (of 11 children) of John Romney, cabinet maker, and Anne Simpson. Raised in a cottage named High Cocken in modern-day Barrow-in-Furness, he was sent to school at nearby Dendron. He appears to have been an indifferent student and was withdrawn at the age of 11 and apprenticed to his father's business instead. He proved to have a natural ability for drawing and making things from wood – including violins (which he played throughout his life). From the age of 15, he was taught art informally by a local watchmaker called John Williamson, but his studies began in earnest in 1755, when he went to Kendal, at the age of 21, for a 4-year appr ...
