Baltzer Fleischer
Baltzer Fleischer (29 September 1703 – 16 December 1767) was a Norwegian civil servant and county governor. Baltzer Sechmann Fleischer was born in Holbæk on the island of Zealand in Denmark. He was the son of Herman Reinhold Fleischer (1656-1712) and Megtele Annamaria Sechmann (ca. 1675-1705). His father's family was originally from East Prussia, but had ties to Norway dating to the early 1600s. As a young man, he began a military career and served for a time in Norway. He came to Norway in 1734 as vice mayor and councilman in Christiania (now Oslo). He served as county manager of Smålenene (now Østfold) for almost 25 years. Baltzer Fleischer was appointed in the Court of Justice in 1749 and the Councillor of State in 1760. He made a significant contribution to land cultivation of the county. Thomas Angell (born 1692)
Thomas Angell (29 December 1692 – 19 September 1767) was a Norwegian merchant, estate owner, mine owner and philanthropist. Biography Thomas Angell was born in Trondheim, the son of merchant Albert Lorenzen Angell. He was educated in theology in Copenhagen. Angell inherited a large fortune from his parents, who belonged to a wealthy trading family with roots in Southern Schleswig. Together with his brother Lorentz Angell (1690–1751), Thomas Angell managed the estate of the Angell family. The business activities eventually included saw mills, shipping companies and the export of various commodities. Thomas Angell (1692 - 1767)
Thomas Angell (c.1616–1694) was one of the four men who wintered with Roger Williams at Seekonk, Plymouth Colony in early 1636, and then joined him in founding the settlement of Providence Plantation in what became the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. He was a minor at the time of his arrival, but his name appears on several of the early documents related to the settlement of Providence. In the early 1650s, he became active in the affairs of the town, serving as commissioner, juryman, and constable. In 1658, he began his service as the Providence Town Clerk and held this position for 17 years. He wrote his will in 1685, dying almost a decade later in 1694, leaving a widow and many grown children. Angell Street on Providence's East Side is named for him. Hans Henrik Rode
Hans Henrik Rode (9 September 1767 – 29 December 1830) was a Norwegian military officer. Biography He was born in Frederikshald as a son of major Georg Frederik Rode and his first wife Vilhelmine, née Stockfleth. He took a military education in Denmark, and became second lieutenant in 1784. He was promoted to premier lieutenant in 1790 and captain in 1800, and in the same year he became aide-de-camp for the governor in Rendsborg, Prince Frederick of Hesse. Rode was also a teacher at the military institute in Rendsborg from 1800 to 1808. He was promoted further to lieutenant in 1803, major in 1809 and lieutenant colonel in 1809. In 1809 Frederick of Hesse was appointed as commanding general in the southern part of Norway, and Rode followed him there. Frederick of Hesse left Norway in 1813, whereas Rode stayed. Christopher Borgersen Hoen
Christopher Borgersen Hoen (26 August 1767 – 17 May 1845) was a Norwegian farmer and politician. Christopher Hoen was born on the Vølstad farm in Øvre Eiker in the county of Buskerud, Norway. In 1791, he acquired the Hoen farm (''Nedre Hoen i Øvre Eiker''). Christopher Hoen became one of the richest and most influential farmers in the area. Hoen was also a prominent Haugean and supporter of revivalist and lay minister Hans Nielsen Hauge. His farm became the center of a large circle of Haugeans in Eiker. In 1797 he held a prayer meeting for the local farmers together with Hans Nilsen Hauge. The parish priest demanded that the assembly had to be dissolved. The Conventicle Act of 1741 () prohibited any religious meetings without parish priest approval. The meeting resulted in an attempt to arrest both men.
