Johan Andreas Altenburg
Johan Andreas Altenburg (1763–1824) was a Norwegian merchant and shipowner. He belonged to the patriciate of the port town of Skien and was the maternal grandfather of playwright and theatre director Henrik Ibsen. Biography Altenburg was born at Lille Ulefos, in Telemark, Norway. He was the son of sawmill manager Diderik Altenburg (1719–1766) and Marichen Johansdatter Barth (1737–1769). His parents died early. After the death of his father, his mother was married in 1767 to Engebreth Christopher Blom Bertelsen Bomhoff (1737–1800). After his mother's subsequent death, he and his siblings lived with their stepfather. Johan Altenburg was originally a ship's captain, but stopped sailing at a relatively young age. Altenburg ran a lumber trade, owned several ships, a farm and a large brewery in the community of Bratsberg. Anders Daae (priest)
Anders Daae (December 20, 1680 – May 18, 1763) was a Norwegian priest and landowner. Life Daae was born in Trondheim, the son of Jonas Edvardsen (a.k.a. Jon Effuertsen, died 1683 or 1688), a townsman of Trondheim. Jonas Edvardsen did not use the surname ''Daae''. After Jonas Edvardsen died, Simon Hoff, the chancellor of the cathedral school in Trondheim, served as Daae's guardian. The origin of ''Daae'', the surname he adopted, is unknown or uncertain. Daae's mother was Kiersten Jensdatter (died 1683). Anders Daae is believed to have started using the surname ''Daae'' after he was admitted to the University of Copenhagen. Daae was indigent when he graduated. In Copenhagen he lived in Regentzen, a building for poor students. After he took his theology exam, he spent two years as a private tutor for a bailiff in Nordmøre, and then he traveled back to Copenhagen in 1705 with the hope of receiving a clerical position. Diderik Hegermann
Diderik Hegermann (6 December 1763 – 7 February 1835) was a military officer and government minister of Norway. He served as a member of the Norwegian Constituent Assembly in 1814. Biography Diderik Hegermann was born at Altona in Schleswig-Holstein. In accordance with family tradition, he chose a military career. He became a cadet in 1776 and served as a Sergeant until 1786. He became a Lieutenant in 1786 in the Corps of Cadets in Copenhagen. In 1790, he was appointed Captain. In 1800, he was promoted to Major and appointed commander on the War School in Christiania (now Oslo). In 1808, he became Lieutenant Colonel and from 1812 he was commander of Oppland Infantry Regiment. Hegermann served as Colonel during the Swedish–Norwegian War (1814). He led the defense at the Battle of Langnes. Jens Esmark
Jens Esmark (31 January 1763 – 26 January 1839) was a Danish-Norwegian professor of mineralogy who contributed to many of the initial discoveries and conceptual analyses of glaciers, specifically the concept that glaciers had covered larger areas in the past. Biography Jens Esmark was born in Houlbjerg in Århus, Denmark. Esmark moved to Norway to the silver mining community of Kongsberg. He studied at the local mining academy. He completed his subsequent studies in Copenhagen and was accepted as a surveyor. Starting in 1797, Esmark was employed as a lecturer in mineralogy at the Kongsberg Mining Academy. In 1814, Esmark became Norway's first professor of geology as a professor of geology at the University of Oslo, and was described as "a pioneer in glacial geology", by professor of Quaternary geology and Glaciology Bjørn G. Peder Von Cappelen
Peder von Cappelen (24 January 1763 – 11 March 1837) was a Norwegian merchant and politician. He was involved in timber trade and owner of ironworks, and a member of the Parliament of Norway. Personal life Peder von Cappelen was born and raised at Mæla Manor in Gjerpen (''Mæla gård i Gjerpen'') in the municipality of Skien in Telemark, Norway. He was one of the sons of the wholesaler, timber merchant and ship owner Diderich von Cappelen (1734–1794) and his first wife Petronelle Pedersdatter Juel (1737–1785). He was the brother of Diderik von Cappelen and Ulrich Fredrich von Cappelen. Career Cappelen attended Kingswood boarding school in Bristol, England (1780-1781). ''Norske Intelligenz-Seddeler'' is a List of defunct newspapers of Norway, former Norwegian newspaper issued in Oslo from 1763 to 1920. It was the first newspaper in Norway, and its first issue came out on 25 May 1763. The founder and first publisher of ''Norske Intelligenz-Seddeler'' was Printer (publisher), printer Samuel Conrad Schwach, who edited the newspaper until his death in 1781. In the beginning, the publication was a weekly magazine. Its content was mainly advertisements and entertaining articles. The newspaper was called ''Christiania Intelligenssedler'' from 1807 to 1893.
