Gustaf Mauritz Armfelt
Count Gustaf Mauritz Armfelt (russian: Граф Густав-Маврикий Максимович Армфельт, tr, ; 31 March 1757 – 19 August 1814) was a Finnish-Swedish-Russian courtier and diplomat. In Finland, he is considered one of the greatest Finnish statesmen. His advice to Russia's Tsar Alexander I was of utmost importance for securing the autonomy of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Career Born in Tarvasjoki, Finland, he was the great grandson of Charles XII of Sweden's general, Carl Gustaf Armfeldt. In 1774, Armfelt became an ensign in the guards, but his frivolous behavior involving a duel provoked the displeasure of Gustav III of Sweden. As a result, he thought it prudent to go abroad 1778. Subsequently, however, in 1780, Armfelt met the king again at Spa in the Austrian Netherlands and completely won over the previously disgruntled monarch with his natural amiability, intelligence and social gifts. Rika Maja
Rijkuo-Maja or Rika Maja (Sami or Swedish for "Rich Maja"; 1661–1757) was a Sámi noaidi from Mausjaur. She was known for her influence and wealth in the contemporary Sámi community and became a famous figure of the Sámi history and the subject of several legends. Life Rika Maja was from Mausjaur south of Arvidsjaur, and belonged to the forest sami of Arvidjsaur. She was married to Nils Hindersson (died before 1730) and had a daughter. She was the owner of over 3000 reindeers. She was famed for her great wealth in the contemporary Sámi community, and known by her sobriquet ''Rika Maja'' ('Rich Maja'). The surrounding Sámis were referred to as her vassals, and at the annual great winter market day, the Swedish merchants of Piteå was forced to ask for her permission to conduct trade with the Sámi people. Erland Broman
Erland Carlsson Broman (1 November 1704 – 19 January 1757) was a Swedish official and noble, and a favorite of King Frederick I of Sweden. Broman was from a lesser noble family and son of '' lagman'' Karl Broman and Eva Hök. He became a courtier of King Frederick in 1722, and soon became a personal friend and trusted confidant of the monarch, who entrusted him with the task to organize his infidelities and love affairs. In 1731, he introduced Hedvig Taube to Frederick and managed to install her as an official royal mistress. The same year, he was made ''kammarherre'', courtier. After the death of Hedvig Taube in 1744, he introduced her successor, Catharina Ebba Horn. In return for this and similar favors, he was awarded with titles, money and offices: he became the chamberlain of the royal court in 1741 and president of commerce in 1747. Christina Fris
Christina Fris (1757–1835), was a Swedish industrialist and merchant. After the death of her husband in 1808, she became the owner of his merchant company, as well as one of the biggest tobacco factories in Sweden. Life Early life She was the daughter of the tobacco factory owner Anders Nordström and Maria Elisabeth Söderman, and in 1777 married the merchant Carl Magnus Fris (1743–1808), son of the Anna Dimander (d. 1792), who inherited a tobacco firm from her second husband. Her sister Maria married her husband's brother Petter Frisson Dimander (d. 1789). In 1792, the tobacco company ''Anna Dimander & son'' was formed when the tobacco factory her husband inherited from his mother; the tobacco factory her sister-in-law inherited from her mother; and the tobacco factory she and her sister Maria Frisson Dimander jointly inherited from their father, was joined in the same company to the biggest tobacco firm in Sweden. Erik Acharius
Erik Acharius (10 October 1757 – 14 August 1819) was a Swedish botanist who pioneered the taxonomy of lichens and is known as the "father of lichenology." Acharius was famously the last pupil of Carl Linnaeus. Henric Schartau
Henric Schartau (27 September 1757 – 3 February 1825) was a Swedish Lutheran pietistic priest. His theology, including his characteristic teachings on the "order of grace", influenced a revivalist movement known as Schartauanism. Biography Schartau was born in Malmö in 1757. His father was a member of Riksdag (Parliament); his mother died from black fever when he was thirteen. Schartau's father then pushed for him to be allowed to graduate at the age of 14 so he could attend university. His father later died after difficult political and financial circumstances. Schartau's paternal grandfather was the vicar of Sörby, Jöns Schartau (1684–1754), who took his surname from Skartofta, the village where he was born. His maternal grandfather was (1701–1767), mayor of Malmö.
