Sophia Schröder
Sophia Schröder (Stockholm, 1712 – 29 January 1750) was a Swedish people, Swedish soprano, active as a concert vocalist at the royal orchestra, the ''Kungliga Hovkapellet'', at the royal Swedish court, the first of her gender to have been officially given such a position.Hovförsamlingen CI:3 1715-1766 (page 482) Life Sophia Schröder was born in Stockholm to German immigrants. On 26 October 1726, females were formally allowed to be employed at Kungliga Hovkapellet by a new direction from the monarch, although females had in fact unofficially been active at the Hovkapellet starting since Maria de Croll in 1702. The same year females were officially admitted, Schröder and her colleague Judith Fischer were formally employed as vocalists, and the following year, they replaced the two boys previously serving as sopranos. Georg Engelhard Schröder
Georg Engelhard Schröder (31 May 1684 – 17 May 1750), also spelled George Engelhardt Schroeder, was a Swedish painter. Life Early life Schroder's father, Veit Engelhard Schröder (died 1710), was a goldsmith from the German city of Nuremberg. In 1670 Veit and his wife Lucia Lindemeyer emigrated to Stockholm, where Georg was born fourteen years later. In his early years he studied under the painter David von Krafft (1655–1724), only leaving his studio in 1703 to travel abroad. In the following twenty-one years Schröder visited most of Europe. He began with time in northern Germany before moving to Italy, where he stayed five years in Venice, copying old masters, painting views of the city and coming into contact with the pastellist Rosalba Carriera (1675–1757). He next moved to Rome, where he was inspired by Baroque artists such as Carlo Dolci (1616–1686), Carlo Maratta (1625–1713) and Francesco Trevisani (1656–1746). Olof Hiorter
Olof Petrus (or Peter) Hiorter (or Hjorter) (1696–1750) was a Swedish astronomer. After studying in the Netherlands, he was appointed lecturer at the University of Uppsala in 1732 to fill the vacant position of Anders Celsius then on his grand tour of European observatories. From 1737 onwards, he studied together with Celsius the aurora phenomenon and a number of astronomy subjects (solar eclipse, comet like the one of 1744, latitude measurements). Hiorter was the first to connect the aurora to magnetic disturbances. Pehr Wilhelm Wargentin was his pupil. Adam Afzelius
Adam Afzelius (8 October 175020 January 1837) was a Swedish botanist and an apostle of Carl Linnaeus. Afzelius was born at Larv in Västergötland in 1750. He was appointed teacher of oriental languages at Uppsala University in 1777, and in 1785 demonstrator of botany. In 1793 he was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. In 1800, Adam Afzelius became member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Between 1792 and 1796, as part of the Sierra Leone Company, he made two journeys to West Africa, where he reported on the geography, climate and natural resources of the region.
