Anna Zippel
Anna Zippel, also spelled as Sippel or Sippela (died 29 April 1676), was an alleged Swedish witch, one of the most famous ones of the Katarina witch trials in Stockholm during the Swedish witch mania "Det stora Oväsendet" ("The Great Noise") of 1668–1676; She was called "The Queen of Blockula", and together with her sister Brita Zippel the most famous witch in Swedish history, famed for her proud defense. Together with her sister, Brita Zippel, and her friend and business partner Anna Månsdotter, she was the first woman in Stockholm to be accused of abducting children to Witches' Sabbath of Satan in Blockula. Gävle Boy
Johan Johansson (1663 – November 1676), usually known as the Gävle Boy, was a young Swedish boy remembered for being a witness in witch trials and for bearing substantial responsibility for the Katarina witch trials in 1676. Background Johan was the son of a shoemaker Johan Davidsson (d. 1672) in the city of Gävle in Gästrikland. He came to live with relatives in Stockholm in 1675 at the age of twelve, after having orphaned himself by having his widowed mother Karin Nilsdotter Griis executed, claiming she had abducted him to the sabbath of Satan in Blockula (Blåkulla) where she had molested him sexually. Malin Matsdotter
Malin Matsdotter or ''Mattsdotter'', also known as ''Rumpare-Malin'' (1613 – 5 August 1676) was an alleged Swedish witch. She is known as one of few people in Sweden confirmed to have been executed by burning for witchcraft, and the only one to be executed by this method during the famous witch hunt ''Det Stora oväsendet'' (' The Great Noise') in Sweden during 1668–1676, which ended with her execution. Early life According to protocol, Malin Matsdotter was of Finnish heritage: she herself later stated in court protocol that she originally learned her prayers in the Finnish language. Lars Stigzelius
Lars Stigzelius (27 October 1598 – 31 August 1676) was Archbishop of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden from 1670 to his death. Biography He was the son of a priest and was a student at the Uppsala University until his Master of Arts in 1625. After undertaking a travel through Europe in 1630, he in 1640 became professor of theology in Uppsala. During his time as professor he was under pressure since both Johan Skytte, the chancellor of the university, and Laurentius Paulinus Gothus, the vice chancellor and a learnt professor who would later become archbishop, were supporters of the philosophy of Ramism (deriving from Petrus Ramus), while Stigzelius was an aristotelian. This problem he had from 1630, when he became professor of logic, until, as said, 1640, when he became professor of theology. ''Fältmarskalk'' Carl Gustaf Wrangel (also Carl Gustav von Wrangel; 23 December 1613 – 5 July 1676) was a Swedish Statesman and Military Commander who commanded the Swedish forces in the Thirty Years', Torstenson, Bremen, Second Northern and Scanian Wars. A Baltic German, he held the ranks of a Field Marshal, Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish forces in Germany (1646–1648), and Lord High Admiral of Sweden (from 1657). Wrangel was Governor-General of Swedish Pomerania (1648–1652 and 1656–1676) and, from 1664, Lord High Constable of Sweden and a member of the Privy Council. Claes Uggla
ClaesAlso written as Claas, Clas or Klas Johansson Uggla (1614 – 1 June 1676) was a Swedish military officer of the 17th century, who served in both the army and the navy, reaching the rank of Admiral before he was killed in action during the naval Battle of Öland. Biography Uggla was born in the village of Afverstad in Ölseruds parish, Värmland, the son of Colonel Johan Uggla and Margareta Gyllenmärs. As a young man he was a page at the royal court. During the Torstenson War of 1643-1645 he served as a volunteer in the navy, seeing action in the fleet under the command of Clas Fleming. From 1646 Uggla served in the Swedish army. He distinguished himself at the Battle of Prague in 1648, and was promoted to captain lieutenant.
