Axel Mowat
Axel Mowat (1592 – 27 January 1661) was a Norwegian naval officer and land owner. Mowat was born in Sunnhordland, probably on the Hovland farm at Tysnes which his father had acquired ca. 1590. Mowat was the son of Anders Mowat til Hovland (–1606) and Else Christoffersdatter til Seim (–1622), daughter of Danish-Norwegian Navy officer Kristoffer Throndsen. His father was engaged in trade between Norway and Shetland. Besides Hovland, his father acquired several other farms within the vicinity of Bergen. Axel Mowat was a naval officer in the Royal Danish-Norwegian Navy and from 1631 he was in command of various naval units in the North Sea. He had acquired property both through inheritance and marriage. After he retired from the admiralty in the 1640s, he started acquiring additional properties, mainly within Sunnhordland. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. Niels Knagenhielm
Niels Tygesøn Knagenhielm (also known as Niels Knag; 11 May 1661 – 19 May 1737) was a Norwegian civil servant, land owner and merchant. He is also known for his descriptions from Northern Norway. He was born near Vågsneset in the parish of Aure in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. He served as district stipendiary magistrate and bailiff in Finnmark. Along with Bergen merchant Jørgen Thormøhlen, he became involved with the lucrative trade in Finnmark and northern Russia. In 1688 appointed deputy judge of Stavanger. In 1695, he was appointed to Lagmann in Bergen. He lived at the Hop farm on the island of Askøy. Barony Rosendal (Norwegian: ''Baroniet Rosendal'') is a historic estate and manor house situated in Kvinnherad in Hordaland county, Norway. The barony was built in the 17nth century by danish noblemen on the old estate of Norwegian noble Galte family, the current barony estate making out the historical farms of Hatteberg, Mel and Eik. History The history of Rosendal dates back to the 1650s, when the nobleman Ludvig Holgersen Rosenkrantz (1628-1685) of the of House of Rosenkrantz came to Bergen as commissioner of war for the Danish king, Frederick III. At a ball at the fortress of Bergenhus he met Karen Andersdatter Mowatt (1630-1675), sole heiress to the largest fortune in the country at the time. Munkholmen
Munkholmen ( no, Monk's islet) is an islet in the municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island sits in the Trondheimsfjord about northwest of the island of Brattøra and the mouth of the river Nidelva in the center of the city of Trondheim. The islet has served as a place of execution, a monastery, a fortress, a prison, and a World War II anti-aircraft gun station. Today, Munkholmen is a popular tourist attraction and recreation site.
